The lawyer could have been flying like he said. Most will not give out their cell numbers or they would never get anything done. They usually use a land line with an answering machine or use an answering service that they can check periodically.
I agree with CondoCruiser, you should have requested a continuance but that is water under the bridge now.
TVC...scam?

When a cell phone is off or out of range incoming calls are normally forwarded to voice mail.BigTennOTR Thanks this.

check out the thread about being a " cliched Alabama song " to see if I learned anything lol...
BigTennOTR Thanks this. -
Yeah, the original ticket had a court date, once I mailed in the 'not guilty plea' I was supposed to get a new court date, according to both the lawyer and the gold copy of the ticket itself.BigTennOTR Thanks this.

I know, my point was that it rang each time, however many rings it is before it kicks over to voicemail. Meaning he was not out of range, or had the thing off. They won't ring at all if that is the case. But thats sooo not the point.
The point is lying about it and waiting until it was too late to call back, and just generally dropping the ball.BigTennOTR Thanks this. -
I asked them if there was anything I could do. They said there wasn't. A lawyer has to request a continuance. If thats not true, I didn't know it. I tend to take people at their word. That the lawyer would have to contact them. Finally, someone in the dispatch office called a friend of his at the traffic courts down in MS and asked him what I should do. The guy said call the clerk back, tell them your dismissing your lawyer and want to pay and plea guilty. Done deal. I did not want to go to jail *shudder* I will not do well in jail...

If you sign guilty, no court appearance. If you sign not guilty that is the court date. It doesn't change unless specifically requested. That's the whole point of putting the date on the ticket in the first place. The dates are pre scheduled like that to allow for the officer to be there. They are each assigned court days so people fighting their citations are all there at the same time. You apparently misread/misunderstood the information on the citation. I speak not only from experience with my own tickets, but from the experience of having a mother that worked in the circuit clerks office (the office that handles the scheduling for the courts not other thing) for decades.gpsman Thanks this.

I say always put up some form of a fight - but do it yourself. Dump the TVC junk. As said here - just google a suit in the local area of the ticket, pay the $250 or so and get him to appear and have it knocked down to a missing tail-light or so.
I've written to judges before and went on and on about what a poor trucker I was and need my driving record and had them reduced. Still pay the fine, but no big dings on your record. -
It's part of the point; you're wrong. A "ringing" signal is still transmitted to callers to a cell phone that is turned off or out of range... unless the call goes directly to voice mail, and that can happen no matter the state of the recipient's phone. It seems to me you must not own a cell phone yourself.
The other part of that point is that you lack sufficient evidence to accuse someone of lying. -
All Lawyers want the retainer money, that is their sales pitch. Once they have you hooked they will do as little as possible for you. Most want to settle because it is quick and cheap, not cheap for you but cheap for them. If you refuse to offer a plea or accept mediation they get into a all out panic and ask for more court money. Its all a scam.
