That's true, but if he hasn't figured out what he's doing wrong, he wont have the new job for long.

If you don't believe that you can make every turn for the rest of your life, with a mama pushing a baby stroller on every corner, don't even bother getting another job. You weren't cut out for this.

My man, you gotta learn to use that little mirror that's underneath the big mirror when you turn.... my vision is far from 20/20, even when corrected, but I know when I'm about to railroad someone else's ####.... Hang with it & practice.... maybe you need more time in the Boston 'burbs? Lol. (Come, have at it! Save me the trouble!)

Exactly. They are the reason I dont sleep well at trk stops and especially at tight rest areas. Which I avoid at these times in my trucking history.

they will most certainly report that to DAC...they may very well report those to any employment inquiries. so any application(s) you fill out, you had better mention them.

the next time you do this, you can easily squash a car, and kill someone.....

    good luck to you.

Trust me...i know exactly what I did. Complacency. It only takes a split second to forget you have a 53’ box behind you and you’re in trouble.

It’s especially aggravating to me b/c trainers have always gotten annoyed with me b/c they say I take really wide turns.

In general I feel like my skills are good. Backing is solid, plus I’m not afraid to get out and check things out and adjust or start the maneuver over. I am confident when i need to park in those tight spaces. I have never backed in to anything. I feel like my defensive driving is good. I keep a good space around me and anticipte well. Just these brain farts are killing me.

I had two preventable my rookie year, both occurred at a truck stop. If they didn't create major damage, or the police didn't get involved, you'll be ok. The police had came to my first preventable. I damaged the hood of that guys truck pretty good. I called Western and let them know what happened and it's like they didn't hear anything I told them.....if you roll over or Jack knife, then there's another issue. I had to learn to pay attention better than I was..if you don't start paying attention, those mishaps could evolve into something more tragic

Focus --- or the lack of.

When I was starting out, at the four month mark, I tried to make a U-Turn in a shipper's yard, and my trailer ripped off a O/O's hood. My ten month mark I again, tried to make a U-turn in area that was two tight and crushed my cab extenders and damaged my cab. In my one year mark, (not my fault this time) my brakes froze and I didn't know, because I was on snow and ice. As soon as my tire hit dry pavement, it spun and stripped out my rear axle. (15k repair, not including tow).

That was with one company. When I decided to move on, it took me all of two hours to find a company that would hire me. You're fine, when it comes to that.

But focus... turn off your music, put down your cigeratte, tell your old lady (or man) to shut up while you turn. Focus as hard as you can until you can turn better than anyone on the road, and then maybe one day you can keep your music on while turning, but very low. And then progress from there. Like everything else in life, it just takes practice, and determination.

It sounds like you are in a hurry as well as not remembering your trailer. When maneuvering in tight situations it’s important to take your time and watch your mirrors, especially in areas you are not familiar with.
When bobtailing I forget I DON’T have a trailer and tend to make wide turns when not necessary.
