You don't have to give any notice at all these days. As soon as you put in an application at another company, your current company will know what you did within a couple days. I never said spit to my company and applied to another company. Well a couple days later the fleet manager sent me a message wanting to talk to me, what do they have we don't have this and that, give me an opportunity to show you how good you have it here etc.

It's a courtesy that is always nice to extend to your employer, but this business is different obviously. If you're away from home, what's to stop the company from keeping you out longer by not routing you home? I know some companies who will slap you with a charge for out of route miles so going home empty could cost you, plus they'd then probably also mess with your DAC. Be VERY careful giving a trucking company notice. If you've been there a long time and think you can trust them, fine. If you haven't been there very long, I'd just quit and turn everything in at the terminal and clean the truck out.
Pinqui Thanks this. -
I was a good boy and gave my last outfit two weeks notice of seperation. Their dispatch responded by semding me everywhere BUT close to home. It took a phone call to safety to get me routed back in time. It was clearly an attempt by dispatch to screw me up for starting my new position with another company.
If you are a good driver who is leaving his current company, expect them to fight you on leaving with every tool in their box. Bad drivers get shown the door as quick as possible. Want to get an honest appraisal of your value to your company? Threaten to quit. See how they react. Then you will know. Just don't be a jerk and abuse it. -
It worked out pretty well. I gave my two weeks to my FM in person, told them I would be fine with driving another two weeks or if they wanted I would have cleaned the truck out that day and moved on. They kept me close to our terminal for about a week and a half. I didn't ask to get home or anythign, as I had my car at the terminal.
Guess prime aint so bad after all, eh? -
2 weeks notice while u are on your home time
-
The last company I quit told me they no longer had any work for me when I put my two week notice in.

I GIVE NO NOTICE, I just up and quit. And here is my reason(s).
When one gets laid off, you get no warning (or notice). When one gets fired, you get no warning(or notice), when a company goes out of business, you get no warning (or notice).
And yet, even if one does the "2 week notice thang", the company can still put mis-information into our DAC files.
Also, many times when one give notice? The company let's you go right then and there, as you have already shown the company you have no desire to continue working there.
I have upped and quit many jobs, and still got jobs.
Do as YOU wish, it is all up to you. But I care not the consequences of up and quitting, with NO notice.
I gotta ask you this however, you went to college, don't YOU KNOW anything about ethics? I mean wasn't there even a short, say 10 minute discussion on ethics at any time IN COLLEGE?
I got no ethics, that's my excuse, and I have NO college either. But for a "college educated" person, you really don't know this, for ANY JOB? -
I see a lot of "companies don't do this or that, they treat you bad, so why should I give notice" well if you want to drag yourself down to their level, that's fine with me, But I know Every time I left a company, and I have left companies before for unacceptable treatment, but still gave notice, no company can argue that, Would like to see any company try and put false information on my DAC, No tickets, no accidents, no load failures, or what have you, So I will continue to be the bigger man, and keep my dignity
