My company has a terminal in Taylor Mi, our place has been there for 4 years, along with 2 or 3 othere trucking companies....
recently they have made our road, they only road getting to the term. weight restricted and length as well...
we have been going here for 4 years, and just 2 weeks ago had a driver get a $3,910 +/-, and just yesterday word is another driver got a ,$5,000 ticket for being over weight...
how man they do this? we have been operating there for 4 years and have never had a problem untill now, i run a dedicated run to their, and i am not so sure its worth $5,000 :biggrin_25510:

im only wondering how the dot was able to change the weight on this road where 3 trucking companies operate on.

Pretty simple. Somebody with money, who wants the property for something and has political connections is going to shut you down.

Not to ask a dumb question, but does the company have a backup plan? Is there another way into the place?

    scottied67 Thanks this.

Probally some DOT engineer decided there was a need for it. Doesn't excuse the fact they should have consulted with your company. Hope the company is paying or fighting those tickets.

If it is the only road that leads to the terminal and you are on it to make a delivery then they can't legally ticket you. If someone got a ticket for that I'd for sure fight it.

never thought of this.... but this is MI, and they are saying it has to do with Frost Law.

Nope, not a dumb question... there is only one way in...

accoding to our term manager, they pay over $40k a year in taxes, and thats just our terminol, not including the other 2.
from what i have heard, the bulider who built these places is involved in this and is working with my company, and standing on our side.

I can understand if it is an unrelated truck just cruising through the area, but given that the road accesses your business, you should be able to pass.

Probably what happened here was a DOT officer was eating donuts when his blood sugar spiked. This caused an increase in blood pressure whereupon a majority of the blood in his body was being routed through his nut sack--causing an increase in testosterone which caused him to act like a tough guy. It's all very technical really.

Once the swelling in his p-e-n-i-s goes down, everything should return to normal.

If I were you, I would lobby the city council to have the local Krispy Kreme shut down.

They can ticket anyone for anything, real or percieved and then it is up to you to fight for your rights to access your place of business, any law can be challenged and any ticket SHOULD always be fought. Otherwise we will just be the cash cow of whatever juridiction we are in.
When I lived in NJ I used to bobtail home in my truck, I got a knock on the door from an officer telling me it was a 5 ton road and I had better move the truck off the property and off the road or get a ticket, I took the ticket and the judge through it out of court... reason being was my truck was my only vehicle and therefore my only way to and from my home and the law restricting use was for commercial use not personal, never got a knock or a second look again.
Good luck!! Don't see how you should loose though, you were there before and should be grandfathered in, besides, they would be restricting your company from doing business and I don't think they can do that without at least a rezone hearing.

Lots of weight restricted areas allow local deliveries.

There is a T/A down in Louisiana on I 10 I think it is, can't recall at the moment-- anyway you cross this bridge to get to the Truck Stop but there are signs all over the bridge that read 38K max! Hello...?
My GPS says truck restricted route lol even though it sees the T/A and is trying to route me there, just before the bridge the GPS stops routing and goes red.
