All most of these companies really care is that you were not in prison, on a 6 month bender, or had a revoked license you are trying to lie to hide. Be prepared to prove none of them are true and you'll be fine.

 

Gumboslef9834 gave some good advice. If you can figure out a way to, go to a school not run b y a trucking company. Try a community college program if you can. Being beholden to a mega isnt a great way to get started. If you get CDL through a private school it opens up many doors much sooner. You might even find a job you wont be planning on quitting the day you start.

6 months is nothing in the lifespan of the average human. I hire people who have not worked in 10 years, I'm glad they took some time off.

 

If you can pass a hair follicle drug test, then go for it.

 

Werner has a terminal in Indy and offers training. It is very important to note that their training is far from free. They will deduct $250 a month from your check until the training has been paid off. I don’t know how much it is but I’m sure it is more than a school like Sage. Werner will reimburse you at the same rate of $250 a month if you paid for your own cdl.

You can't be picky at this point. You haven't work for 6 months so I'm assuming your savings is draining and you want a company to sponsor your CDL. Almost all sponsored CDL from the big mega carriers will want you to sign a contract. It can range from 8 months to 1 year depending on the company. They may pay you low, but its better than having zero income. Just stick thru it for a year to gain experience than it will open up doors to other companies.

 

In some places if youre on unemployment the gov will pay for your school. I think its part of a job training program or something like that

 

Just wondering, why would you hire someone with 10 years of no work? As an employer what do you think when you see that on an application? And what would you think of someone who has a history of hopping jobs? Like working for 3 months then switching to another job
