We live in Washington state so I think we need to get an emissions truck in order to be able to go to California to make this venture profitable. If I lived in Missouri I would totally look at gliders!

A couple things I remember from when I worked there...
Most (all?) Swift trucks are 9 speed or autos, I don't remember seeing any 10 speeds there.
Also, the fifth wheel release is on the right side of the truck for some weird reason.

From another thread @Midnightrider909 has on TTR ,we know he wants to run 150 000 to 200 000 miles a year.
Don't think it is wise to buy used if your planning to do that many miles.
Combine it with his location and new is the only real option for him.(WA so he needs Cali compliant)
Also he has no real experience off working on the truck himself.(OP used to flip houses)

I knew a guy that bought an ex swift truck through Arrow.
It couldn't pass a DOT inspection immediately after he bought it and Arrow gave it a DOT inspection before selling it.

I'm just guessing on the miles. Our first year we drive for Watkins and Shepard and drove over 200,000. For Slt we've been there 5.5 months and we've only done about 63000. I figured when we go to Landstar will probably run a little harder than this. I did a lot of my own work on those houses and I used to flip cars before that so I'm not a moron when it comes to his tools. As far as getting a used Swift truck if you got one in the 400000 mile range and you put a couple hundred thousand on it as a team you could probably run that for three years before it died (assuming 1 million mile engine lifespan) and by then you'll totally got your money's worth out of it. That is of course assuming it runs for those three years and doesn't need something major.

Swift trucks currently in some kind of safety recall, their 4ways don't work while backing up--

That's a Swift flatbedder, a rare sight. They sometimes get a dry van load when they request home time.

Problem is that 400 000 mile trucks will be post '10.
So full emissions, with those full waranty and buying new is the better option in your case.
Also if run it 3 y as a team,it will have around 600 000 at which point you can choose to run less, run it a single driver or trade it.
    That's my advice (O/O for 17y)

    Midnightrider909 Thanks this.
