Are you saying you were so broke the shade tree moved away after you started the project to protect his reputation?

Had to nail it in place to keep it from moving.

pretty much have all of the frame work done and fitted up
There’s a whole lot of pictures between here and there that never got taken but nothing to significant IMG_6562.jpeg Some freshly rebuilt sandblasted and painted rear ends IMG_6567.jpeg Got the both double rails blasted primed and sitting on the axles IMG_6579.jpeg looking a little more like a truck frame IMG_6580.jpeg IMG_6763.jpeg
Most of the frame is assembled although no bolts have been tightened
Any thoughts on lubricants for tightening the bolts that won’t cause issues with the next stage of painting
Maybe I will be done for 2026 model year lol

    Ruthless and Feedman Thank this.

3 in 1 oil cleans up decently if it even makes it to that point given your pace. 1 or 2 drops on the male end

I do believe that is a factory option yes/ specifically for vocational trucks, generally with 1 tank

Fuel tanks under the cab was definitely an option on a W9, became less common once DPFs started showing up. I've seen them on both sides but its miserable to replace a clutch with the tanks mounted that far up. Even worse if they have air tanks mounted on the back side of the tank brackets. Not too bad with one fuel tank and no air tanks. I'd want to run the 7" wide strap style for better ground clearance if you can find the parts. Can never have too much ground clearance on a dump truck.

Here's an oilfield truck I saw a while back spec'd that way. Lots of pictures in this listing to give you some ideas.

Good call on the Air Liner. I'm not a Freightliner fanatic but they did get that suspension right in my opinion.

Thanks for that link there’s quite a few nice pictures there. You’re right about it making the clutch a pita but I’m pretty small so I can usually fit under the tanks on a creaper as long as I put the front tires on 4x4s. Hopefully replacing clutches is not routine enough to worry about that extra complication. This truck had the low mounted air tanks but the new ones will be getting mounted up in the frame like my fords where they’re safe and out of the way
I hope that airliner suspension was a good choice…if I had my way it would have been on Hendrickson walking beam but everything has been pussyfied and can’t get anyone to drive one
I’m planning to keep this truck more on road use and keep the fords on the rough jobs.

Bean Jr., Feedman and Ruthless Thank this.

got the front end back on and painted IMG_7318.jpeg New inter axle drive shaft is assembled just needs the welder now….sorry no other pictures were taken IMG_7375.jpeg It rolled out of the shop…it’s nice and shiny but I’m not too happy with this paint. It’s awful easy to chip. I believe the formula has been changed because you used to be able to paint the side of a trailer with it and do very little damage with normal chaining and use.
it sits a little high in the front but I hope adding weight and changing tire sizes will fix that

Feedman, Sons Hero, Hammer166 and 2 others Thank this.
