I think so, but it's a miserable drive. Lots of curves that require slow speeds, reduced speeds in little towns, etc.

I can tell you from experience you don't want to be on Highway 14 when the snow and ice is thereDave_in_AZ and Lepton1 Thank this.

From where to where are you wanting to run?

West of us 97 there's a lot more hills and curves, towns and slow speeds. Easier to take 84. Not like Oregon knows how to clear a road in winter weather either. Plenty of times a salt truck would make a world of difference. For whatever reason they seem to have the mindset "God put it there He can take it away" and crashes/pileups have been known to happen through the gorge. Better to wait in Pasco when the weather goes down the crapper.
Dave_in_AZ, Oxbow, not4hire and 1 other person Thank this. -
There's a pretty good thread on this subject somewhere complete with pics, if you can search for it.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -

mitmaks Thanks this. -
Few months ago I was in Portland during the "wild" fires that had I84 closed and I went up to WA to get the hwy 14 only to be turned around and told that I had to take the Hwy 12 in WA or hwy 26 in OR. I chose the 12 in WA and it wasn't too bad. Beautiful and enjoyable route.

You don't want to be on 14 with a 13-6 and lots of traffic on it because of a road closure where lots of traffic decides to use 14
-
Best to go on the 12, all the way to Yakima and go from there.
