I'm not sure they're going to kill it on purpose as much as they're just gonna stumble into it. Imagine, all the changes they're going to put into place.....the losing of programs, the increased slip seating, the losing of set runs, etc. that's going to piss of a LOT of veteran drivers (full disclosure....I'm pretty new to the fleet, so I freely admit my knowledge may be limited). And these guys may or may not say the hell with it and quit (word I've heard is that Walmart is gearing up for a lot of retirements in the near future anyway). So they'll be looking at filling slots. With drivers who meet their standards, perhaps not realizing that those drivers have a lot of options. So they look into Walmart and are told:depending on where you live, you're going to get a steady dose of some of the hardest traffic in the country...you can look forward to slip seating indefinitely... AND you're gonna get to make .38 per mile (with activity granted). Now these potential new hires are looking at this and going "Lots of traffic headaches, no truck to get comfortable with and make the weeks a little easier, and the chance to earn pretty much what I can earn anywhere else....without the headaches. The hell would I want to sign on to THAT for?" So now the company has a choice: lower the standards (apparently not an option) and be looked at like any other trucking company....getting the same kind of drivers that everyone else gets, or decreased capacity. If it's the former, the conclusion will be to end the PF and let a mega carrier take it over...thereby saving costs. If it's the latter, then they'll need to bring in some of the bigs to pick up what the fleet can't do. Then a few years later it'll be "Why don't we just go ALL mega, since they're handling it anyway?"
Like I said...I'm new to the fleet, and I'm perfectly fine (HAPPY even) if I'm eventually proven wrong. And I'm gonna give it hell and do my job for as long as it's worth doing. But normal prudence dictates I'll be keeping my eyes and ears open. While much may be cleared up in March when these realignments start hitting; to me it'll be more interesting to hear what the tale they tell us will be this time time next year....what's next? PTO? Layover pay? Benefits? More "realignment"?
Walmart here I come!

Yes. WM loves 38 specials versus the old tenure.

I’d assume that means employees of established seniority.
