Just a friendly reminder to my fellow techs (and the DYI drivers on here) to watch where you're putting your hands. Got a finger caught in a bad spot today and ended up getting a decent chunk partially sliced off. Like an old co-worker always used to say "don't be putting those fingers anywhere you wouldn't stick your pecker"

Over 20 years ago I was working on a job, one of our best most respected longtime mechanics had some of his fingers lopped off while working on a pickup truck, his fingers got caught in the fan blades.

We had a welder cutting beams that were stacked up over by the fence, evidently one of them rolled in such a way it sliced his fingers right off but he was trapped under this 2 ton beam I believe they were 14x89's, he stood there in shock for like half an hour before someone came up and asked him what was wrong, we had to get a forklift to get the beam up off his hand and send him to the hospital.

In my case, we were short rigging the crane boom (this is where we knock out all the boom exept the very beginning and the tip is pinned back in place). I got my side hooked and the welder who is more versed in welding than crane rigging couldn't get his side so I monkeyed over to help and grabbed one of the gantry lines with my hand and had the crane operator boom down a little so I could get the short rigging looped over the dog, anyway my hand got sucked into the sheave. I screamed out real quick before I lost any fingers, he boomed back up and we tried again but that was a very close call.

Worst part is I've been doing hydraulic lines the last 2 days. Gotta use the nitrile gloves to keep that oil out of the wound.

As discussed in other threads. All you need is woman.

If you regularly stick your fingers in the same places you stick your Johnson, you will wear gloves, for everything, except what was mentioned in the beginning of the sentence.

    10-4?
    Dig it?
    Skin?

I know a guy who was trying to use his thumb to close off a high pressure hydraulic line that ruptured. The oil squirted deep into his tissues and was a major problem for months as they had to go in and do surgeries to get that stuff out.

Yep. Diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid injection can be deadly. The wound will never heal until the fluid is removed and it eats the tissue up. They actually have to slice you open and vacuum the fluid out. Severe cases, amputation and death.

Still got all my digits! Let's keep it that way. We had a kid at school get dared to put his hand under the injector test bench... He is a stubby now.

The first pipe job I went on had a rough as a cob mechanic on it. Got his finger lobbed off at the knuckle between pads when putting new rails etc on an 8. I'm beside him setting up a 588 boom. I get him to ER to get bandaged up he walks out says "Hey hand light my #### torch an hand it here" . Cuts the same finger off the little hands holding his water cooler on. Looks at me and says it's tacky not ta match. Gets in his old Chevrolet gas burner and bounces right back to work. Lol

Yeah I wanna keep all mine too. This about the only injury I've had (regular cuts, bruises and scrapes aside) in my 8 years doing this so I think I must be doing something right 99% of the time.
