They have a good site - I'll do some reading.

The CEL issues were with the Jacobs set - and noticeably worse the colder ambient temperatures became. Jacobs are off - PAC is back on. No codes, everything working as it should, just awful weak.

Did you pull the P63 off the VIN or the engine serial?

Yes - my mechanic. It's close to Christmas and both his shop heaters went down, and a hot water leak at his house, so I'm not pressuring him , but he'll have to look back and start searching where the rebuild kit came from.

Mechanics dad mentioned a while back that engine brakes were a dealer installed option many years ago - @pushbroom picked off the P63 , so I guess they were Detroit factory installed.

Why did you replace? Unless the Jacobs set that went on were faulty, the PAC performed a lot better.

Unfortunately I'm not at an apples to apples comparison, or have much of a datum point to reference at this stage. Frustrating.

What head work was done? Being unable to achieve proper lash makes me think you have bigger issues going on with the valvetrain and it's showing up in engine brake performance.

Good morning my friend, in all honesty I’m not familiar with this style of Jakes. I’m thinking @jamespmack runs a DD and may have some knowledge of them….?

I have zero on a pac brake. The Jacobson yes. Normally as long as the solenoids and harness are good, they are pretty trouble free. Mine physically put you back in the seat.

There are a few models, wrong model could possibly cause issues.

Any CEL is wiring/solenoid or ecm related.

This is a wild hunch. I dont really know the answer. But Paccar esp KW like to use ground side to control stuff, even on ecm side of a Detroit. Any chance jake solenoids are Normally open on one, and Normally close on the other? Thoughts from my couch.

I think it was leaking oil from the head gasket, when he removed head we found one scored liner, so replaced that cylinder pack. I don't think head was resurfaced, but I'll ask.

    Morning sir!

The CEL was throwing when we had the Jacobs on - with the PAC on there is no codes. I'll ask him about the ground control issue.
Kinda difficult for me to figure it out because I'm not the one that worked on them - I appreciate the input from you guys that have fooled with this stuff a lot longer.
