    If i recall correctly, i think off duty driving is considered Personal Conveyance to be legal. However, you have to be either empty or bobtail. You legally can not drive under a load. Correct? My company allows it but they limit it to 30 miles. I'm not sure that is law, rather their company policy instead.

    I use mileage as a tool still.... but really it comes down to how many days do you need me? And then a day rate based on that answer.

    Crete / Shaffer / Hunt allows off duty driving if you have a trailer, but no load, AND have run out of hours at a receiver. If you have driving hours, you have to burn them. You can drive no more than 60 miles. If you want to challenge them, call them, because that's company policy.

    A I mentioned before, it may be some sort of pilot program that our company is participating in, or it might simply be that Crete lawyers have poked at the wording of the regs, then spoken to DoT lawyers and gotten a ruling which Crete and the DoT isn't sharing with the rest of the trucking world. *shrug*

    What does it mean to be under load anyway? A trailer isn't a load. It's a vehicle.
