Never been in a situation where I had to chain, or even have them, but I think if I were I'd much rather collect layover pay for hazardous conditions than end up flopped over in a ditch. Suppose I'll have to find myself in those conditions before I actually make that call though. It's bound to happen one day I'm sure.

just think if for everysingle snowstorm during winter months that every trucker decided to park it, thiscountry would seize the function.

the freight has to move. common sense that if the weather is really bad you can shut er down

Tmc gives us chains for the truck to keep untill we quit. They even give us trailer chains. Iv never used them but many states requier you to carry them in winter. Sent from my iPhone

If your comfortable with it, and want to do it; then chain and go. If you're not; then don't. I don't care how you feel about it either way, as long as you're doing what is safest for you, and the rest of us out there.

I get paid a flat rate by the mile. Anything that slows down that production ie. snow, steep mountains or big city stop and go rush hour is bad for business. So if I see it will be snowing, I try to avoid loads going to or through that area even if it means sitting waiting for a load out to a flatter part of the country. Climbing mountains means the truck is going slower both up and down plus the extra fuel cuts into my flat rate over the same amount of miles on flat ground. Rush hour traffic? Try to go through big cities at midnite.

My company requires you to chain up.Only way possible they'll say no is you call a guy from the compny who makes the call and chances are that won't happen unless that road is closed. If you apply for OTR then you should be required to chain up.You only need them to get up and over a mountain.

Only needing chains to get up and over a mountain is not true. You should take I80 through NV in the winter time. They often have the entire state on chain law. I have often driven nearly 300 miles at a time with chains.

That's not true. I was leased on at Werner for 3 years, was never told that. Loads I ran, I was told to chain up to get it there on time, it's the drivers choice at the end of the day anyways.

you west coast ppl don't realize, you are the only ones with these chain laws.

East of say Co they aren't required.

East of Miss. river they are hardly even seen on trucks.

    unless they run west coast.

and yes, we do get deep snow and have some steep mtns. lol

when I ran Reno from here, I ran the southern route.

I-40 to route 95 in Az. bought chains, but never used them.
