Lets see Werner....dispatch is payed by commission. Hence the treatment, they will run you till you squeal. Most dispatchers are right out of college, with no people/communication skills. Dispatchers are watching 60-80 drivers at all times.
The "Planners" (Aliens from Uranus) set the runs, dispatch just doles out the loads.
This could explain their #####iness. Not defending them just explaining why they might be the way they are.
Trainers for Werner at one time could have only 6 mos. experience. Hardly enough time to train even themselves.
If you dont like your "driver manager" contact his boss and request a different dispatcher. Have documented reasons for the change, rude, abusive, can't ever get me home on time, etc. If you run 48 states and canada ask for Walter Amacher for a dispatcher he's ann old friend and former driver. He will treat you right.
Alot of them are vey rude, but concider that alot of the people they deal with are rude as hell too.
Be the bigger person and out savvy them.
You say you being shorted on your miles? Do you mean actual driven miles or miles they pay for the load? Discuss the problem with dispatch without screaming.
Ask them about a possible dedicated run, Wal-Mart, Family Dollar, Dollar General.
With Werner you are just another dime a dozen driver until you prove to them that you can deliver. turn over there is probably 70% or higher. My training was being run like a team, the only time the truck stopped was to fuel up, grab some food or a quick shower. Went coast to coast daily it seemed. Forign trainer, no sleep, drove mostly at night, language barrier, blah, blah ,blah. Always in Long Island, NY, Jersey, Philly, Boston. Once you do the hard knox it gets easier.
My advice try to get at least a year in before moving on. Two would be better because most companies want you to have 2 years OTR driving experience. You will come out of it "Seasoned". Best of luck, hope this helps, most of us all went thru this. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" :biggrin_2556:

I've personally worked the Family Dollar (Duncan, OK warehouse) and Dollar General (Ardmore, OK warehouse) accounts. Your backing will be immaculate after working those accounts for a couple of months! 95% of the stores are either tight to get to the door where the storeroom is located, or hard to maneuver in the parking lot.

The money is "okay" compared to working regular otr, and you will have constant loads usually with multiple stops.

I just would like to throw a few semi-related details regarding my situation if i may.
I am about to sign on to NTTS in order to get my class A.
I had a class B for nearly 10 yrs and had a few overnite otr dedicated runs all over the NE but was of course mostly local/daily runs.. but was unable to of course find anyone willing to give me time in the equipment necessary in order to upgrade to an A. i wanted to avoid the training mills and mega carriers but at this stage in my life and what with having a rather negative history (non traffic/lic related.. wth do credit checks and crim checks have to ReallY do with gainful productive and skillful employment other than satisfying some mega corp or mega insurance corps 'needs' and 'requirements'. my negative history is all well over 10 yrs old and the gov even saw fit to grant me a valid passport ID as well yet... still huge difficulties ensue).
    i digress.. sry.. anyways..
NTTS wants 9G. 6G of which i can begin paying back # 50 bux a month 6 months after graduating their 602 hour course which is 5 days a week running from nov to march.
i have so much more i could discuss and in much greater detail but this probly isnt the proper place to do so... but i am certain there are drivers out there that had the same or similar difficulties and were able to succeed..
werner definitely recruits from NTTS on a regular basis but so do a few others.. namely Swift, J.B., H.O.W., DOT, Wadhams, Stevens, Wecare Trans, U.S. Xpress, Superior, TMC, TransAm, Roehl, Crete, Falcon, H.O. Wolding.. and a slew of others i think...
sure i will easily graduate this very extensive training to get my A thru ntts but.. sigh.. who will hire? and to whom should i apply? I have no problem grunting thru a 'bottom feeder' to simply get a few yrs/miles under my belt and then looking for better but if i can avoid being mistreated i most certainly will and so i post here lookin for help and advice.
    idk..

I did not "jump" on him. I just let him know I wasnt looking for him to tell me how great he is. You read it ur way and I read it mine. I find a lot of nice friendly guys out here. In a passing moment. I was with three different trainers. ALL of who hated Werner and the driving public. Not equally, but the same anger. I have been in say hundreds of truck stops,( iknow that is tiny compared to most) and seen very frustrated and angry, as well as filthy drivers mad. I had a guy from CRST stand on his truck steps and piss out his door this am at a truck stop... it was 6 30 am. And very light out. I plan on quitting Werner soon. I am better then this and I just needed to see it. I dont think I am better then any truck driver or the career, just better then Werner deserves. I will find a company that is looking for some one who is energetic and wants to do a better job then just get by. I think you should reread his comments, He said "you should look befor u leap". Thats a fairly negative "haha". No bad feelings to him or you. Oh if u need to find negativity, just turn on ur CB...its a 24 hour a day nasty private radio. Yes there are great guys out there. I meet and talk to them everyday or so... but then there is also the guy pissing on the side of my truck too.

Actually, I consider "look before you leap" to be constructive and positive criticism. I also consider the accusation of being a "recruiter" to be anti-social and negative. Sorry you got a raw deal, but the original intent holds true: you jumped into something without doing your due diligence. My apologies for not feeling your pain, the pain you brought upon yourself.

I threw mine in the garbage at a Pilot in Illinois back in March. Coincidentally, another truck driver that works for the same company that I do claims that he's been working otr for 25 years, and threw his CB over a bridge into Lake Shasta in Northern California. I asked him why. His reason was that trucking "just isn't the same anymore and I got tired of listening to ignoramuses on the CB on a daily basis".

I haven't been driving for very long and wholeheartedly agree with him.

He is right. Job hopping almost screwed me because the companies I sent resume's to said I had too many jobs in a 2 year span. I told them no one ever asked me why. Trust me I know the object of this game is to make money and obviously if you sit at a truck stop in Knoxville, TN for a week, empty, wouldn't you quit too? I did. Thankfully now I am with an excellent company and plan to stay here for a while.

Which is exactly why I am glad as the dickens that I did not go with that company. I didn't do the greatest. But at least I didn't get screwed by them. :biggrin_25523:

Let me just say this about Werner...2 trainers and I lasted 2 months...trainer one was an O/O and thought that the money was more important than Hygiene...not kidding at all...can you say BED BUGS in a truck bunk..I had to let the SDM know I needed a shower cause he wasn't having it...trainer 2 was Romanian and wanted to teach me about being an armed guard in the Romanian Army with a dog...Ruff Ruff...wow he was cool but ANNOYING is putting it lightly...I got to move on with a smaller tanker company and did very well there..so life after a short stint at Werner is possible..just think small...
