......Should you come down with this evil nasty crap and you’re out on the road somewhere what’s your plan? I know a lot of you were going to say you’re just gonna suck it up and keep driving. I’ve been sick three or four times in the last year and a half and I did just that but I think this virus is going to kick some of us in the balls. You gonna park somewhere, stay in the truck and I hope you don’t end up in the ER? It looks like best case scenario you’ll be out for 10 days.
What’s your plan.....

Effects of this bug vary from zero symptoms to pneumonia & worse. My response will be drive home unless I cough up a lung. This isn't Ebola.lynchy, bentstrider83, Vic Firth and 2 others Thank this.

I’m not worried. If i get it then i guess i will park and rest, just like any other time i am sick. Then go back to work when I am better. If I die then i guess I won’t have to go back to work. Just like any other day i guess.

The situation is changing all the time, but as it is right now if you get this it's at least 14 days down time. Truckers have a unique job/lifestyle, much of it unknown to the general public and they have to be proactive in order to avoid catching this. It's life or death. If you get it and spread it, you can kill people. Not just old people either. Young people with cystic fibrosis can't afford to get this.
Everybody in this industry needs to step up to the plate and do their part to prevent this from spreading. It's all on us Lenny. We can be heroes or villains. The choice is for each driver to make.
I've been in logistics since 1985 and up until about a month or two ago it's always been just a job, something to pay the bills. Now though, I feel like it's my sacred duty to keep myself healthy, take what I have learned over the years and deliver the goods. I feel it deep in my bones that people are depending on me and I don't want to let them down.Last edited: Mar 19, 2020

Midwest Trucker and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
Park the truck at the company yard, clean out your junk and go home where your preps and weapons are. I've been saying it for a week and a half and now you're late to the game. Health is wealth. If they want it shutdown, nationwide, then do it unless they up the pay dramatically.
joshuapowell61 and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -
One problem for me going home...my mother-in-law lives with us and she has lung cancer (that has spread to other parts of her body). She is on oxygen and some non-chemo treatment, but is very susceptible to respiratory illness. If I got it, I guess I would be either living in the truck at home(for as long as they'll let me keep it) or setting up a cot in the storage barn with a dvd player and an extension cord.
