What causes screeching brakes ?

It could be rust jacking. The steel they make the drums out of will show surface rust in a very short time...especially in southern humidity. That minor surface rust gets between the drum and the shoes and allows some lack of contact. After a few brake applications, the rust is gone.
I drive a 2021 Cascadia and my brakes have squealed since I was assigned to it 10,000 miles ago and it only has 28000 miles.Rideandrepair and SilverBulletBand Thank this. -

We haul underground utility piping (water/sewer/electrical conduit and related items. Our trucks are frequently maxed out (around 30,000 lbs) with (4) layers of heavy ductile iron pipe. We service all of Middle Tennessee where it is very hilly. So the brakes on our trucks take a beating. For sure !Attached Files:

I would think if it was "just" surface rust the squealing would go away in few applications. It does not. It takes many applications until the squealing stops for the day. Almost like the brakes need heated up to make it stop.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

Yup sure do ,I replace my disc s and the squeek go's away..But we are talking trucks man are we not
