Rim on the ground; or up a little, for the draft to suck thru the stone slots and feed an updraft?? That one does look much nicer than the rusted ragged you were proposing. Stone collection from a monument company in Georgia?

The rim is set about 2/3 in the ground, to slow the burn... I dont want to go through wood as fast as I can poke it in. This is after 2 hours of burning...

No additional wood was added. And its still good and hot, can feel a comfortable amount of heat from a couple feet away.

The lava rock is from a very large pile in the corner of the field across the road. Mostly picked from the field over the years I'm sure. Probably a couple dozen large dump truck loads in that pile.

Logical.. You are doing a fire pit outdoor fireplace. I was thinking of charcoal, throw an old refrigerator rack across and use as a grill.

Is there a mfg name/brand on the thing? See some text on the end of the top handle. When it cools (and that chicken is out of the way) please examine and shoot me any ID of mfg. Lowes here does not show. Pre thanks...

Did I ever mention that the SLC International Airport parking garage was designed by someone addicted to left handed Marlboros??

No, but the baggage conveyor system in Denver was designed by someone who did not know what he was supposed to do. It was the leading coffee/sales meeting/ new equipment topic at the time. I was selling conveyor and storage rack around that time for a Clark dealer and it was hilarious to hear the problems it had. As far as I know, it was largely abandoned as designed and there is still a massive problem there.

Years ago I heard not to use old refrigerator racks on a fire because they release cadmium when subjected to open flame. Just sayin'.
