I only took two puffs on my last cigarette in 2016. I stubbed it out, forced myself to struggle the hundred yards from my truck to the drivers lounge at the company yard, and some friendly people from the local ambulance service hauled me off to the nice hospital downtown for some heart surgery. (I don't recommend that unless you really need it.) Haven't seriously thought about picking them up since.

The really dumb part is I had quit for ten years before picking them up again after a particularly stressful month at my last office job. So if you can't stop smoking, at least quit your office job.

Took a good 7 years for the cravings to fully go away.

    It's an addiction.

You just have to dig the heels in. Sometimes you just have to make it through the current minute, to get to the next one.

    Glad you made it Bud.

It's a really expensive and stupid habit / addiction. Of all the stupid things I've done in my life, this was the worst.

There are a bunch of habits and addictions that need to be broken, to comfortably stop smoking.

When dad quit he changed out his cigarettes for a box of toothpicks. That way he could do all his regular habits and only work on the nicotine addiction.
One of his buddies did the same but with lemon drop hard candies.

Later in corporate life, they would pay for folks to join an A.A. type program, complete with group sessions and reinforcing the sponsor/buddy system. They encouraged people to cut back slowly. One gal brought the office donuts when she realized she was down to smoking only 1 pack a day of regulars as apposed to 2 packs of 100s.

If you are familiar with Tarter, Behlen, Powder River or Priefert products, that’s what we do.
