i’m guessing he got some serious religion while they were jabbing around, trying to get the IV going. I think maximum length of time on death Row should be about a week.

You know— it ain’t up to me to judge, but when you confess to murdering 23 people for the fun of it, I’d bet that whatever religion his warped mind came up with probably ain’t gonna be enough

There's an excellent book by one of the founders of Colorado Springs called Memories of a Lifetime in the Pikes Peak Region. (A friend of mine ramrodded the reprint of the book about 10 years ago, so of course I got a copy.) Most people focus on the author's account of the so-called Sand Creek Massacre, since it differs considerably from the official Washington DC account of that battle. The short version is that some of the Denver colonels and generals hated Chivington because of the Battle of Glorieta Pass, so they made up some pretty egregious lies about this battle.

Anyway, among other interesting stories also included in the book is an account of two horse thieves from Texas who were caught by the locals and brought to trial in Colorado City (now the west side of Colorado Springs). The men of the city had a trial the next day, found them guilty based on the testimony of some witnesses, and hanged them the day after the trial. That's how it used to be done.

    Hope the witnesses weren't lying.
