As an aside to rethink my past.
Actually, I found to be on time, do a good day's work, keep my own observations mostly to myself, worked well enough for the time I put in at a place.
But when blatannt changes were made, I was gone. 2 weeks notice and at the new place.

Drove W P, MS to Indy on weekends till graduated HS May 53...

6/53 to 5/54-Bryan Bros Pkg- Hire promise was run a route a year for me and I will put you on the road. Hired 2 other drivers in that time and me still on route.
Caught the Greyhound to Canton, MS, got hired, gave them 2 weeks notice and was asked "Why, what is the trouble?"

7/54 to 7/55-Riddell Trk Line- Fired.. Boss was out working to elect a governor. Tire contractor asked why we sitting. My statement was: "Boss is out politicking, and we are sitting here going broke." He relayed out of context to boss, boss called me in and stated: "When I did not have confidence in his being able to operate an provide me a job, I could go then."

8/55 to 10/57-J.T. Garrard - Caught the Greyhound up to Starkville and talked with Jimmy Garrard. No need now, but if you want to hang around, you can stay in the bunkhouse and run any extra that comes up. So I settled in, did a couple of short 100 milers, a man he was expecting to come on board declined the offered truck, so I took it and rolled. Traded at $.05 a loaded mile, pd Friday if in, keep the discount but do not bump the ticket. Went and come, took care of the truck, customers and customer cows...Got a new truck and in it 's1st year put 118K on it.

Then fleet was going to R195 IH, 5 and 2, 20" tires. Fleet commonality. I was in a V195 IH, 8 sp RR, 22" tires, would shake 40K down flat ground on a flatbed at 70MPH all day long. We did not run that fast, but it had the power to walk 55 to 60 loaded all over SE. I could run till 4 AM, sleep till sunup. and do it again. Good truck, good loads and trips, making money. So I told Jimmy, "When my 195 comes in, write my check, I will be moving on." It came, they wrote and I left. (Jimmy later told on me.. I tried to starve him to death first, then decided to just run him to death. Neither worked.)

10/57 to 5/58-Beneke Corp- Garrard Truck Leasing had: Johnston Furniture Co, Beneke, Jet Dog Food, and Alabama Metal Products trucks leased out.
(J.T.Garrard as J.T. "Gah red" and Garrard Truck Leasing as "Jah rard". No connection, no kin, just different pronunciation.)
Pulled a few odd runs for Jet and Johnston and then got on Beneke. Ran East (VA, NJ, NY, and as far up as Maine for a few months.
Was then teamed with a short little fellow Edgar Barnett to run west as team. Weekly turns to SD, LA, or SF and load back in 100 miles of Columbus.
Draft number was coming up in late May 58, so just joined up with US army for the good life for 3 years....

Married, family, finance companies, equipment companies, own company, retired....

Yeah, but I have been "quit" longer than you have. You will never catch my records time in retirement.....

Check your figures. I did it in Excel; supposed to have been dead, and just renewed driver license for 8 years. Go figure.

    That's a shame.

They were my "go-to" snack on my paper route, back in the day.

I finally found a mini-pie in another brand, but the pecans were pretty much a paste. Not like Bama's; Whole pecan halves in a tiny little pie. Always wondered how they did that.

Anyway, thanks for the info. Now I can stop looking for something that isn't gonna be there......
