What if it Snows?

If it happens too early, the citrus crop goes to hell.

It was 20 above zero in North Dakota last night. That's down right balmy (for ND).

 

Had a really bad day yesterday. Like seriously bad.

But I might be making the move into big boy truckin'.

 

Good woolens are the best in the cold and wet.

Put a cotten blend sweatshirt on in a drizzly rain and the darn thing just soaks up the damp and never seems to dry. You'll barely feel it in a good wool sweater.

Now if it's poorly made or just cheap wool, the math changes. I will take a little damp over itchy as ####.

 

On the other hand, washing woolen garments is a pita.

 

I thought that was what the "Wool" setting on my washing machine was for?

 

Yes, but if you put more than 2 sweaters in they come out misshapened. They also need to be laid out to dry on a flat surface, flipping a couple of times a day. And thats for woolens that can be machine washed.

Roger doesn't hand wash squat and can only convince his sister to do so many favors.

now being dead and posting to TTR, that would just plain be freaky and cool.

 

Oh thats right. I plumb forgot.

Arkansas is freezing a month early, maybe even a little sleet and ice thrown in depending on timing.

Ive got the house at a nice toasty 80 tonight. If I had cats they would molt. (I am working on adoption before too long...)

About this time of year is why I chopped trees on my land and piled firewood to season and dry out so that it will go to those who have children and absolutely no way to get warm other than the firewood. I have done it every year for about 15 total years and lost count of how many I helped with my trees through the winter. But frankly this is one of the first winters where I have neither the trees or the wood to keep them warm up in these hills.

I might remedy that by buying a couple of acres of forested bottomland and continue that activity if possible.

 

A lot of cities and towns used to have firewood lots run by utility/power companies. Instead of buying more land with trees on it, maybe ask around for a charity wood lot, and if there isn't one, it sounds like you might have enough land to start one. Get utility and government to deliver you trees that they clear, and you chop them up and give them away.

You might even get a few locals to join you and make it a community thing!
