Several of us had been drinking in Starkville, returning to Columbus. Sober one inquired on fuel. OK, close tho. So lets get some, plenty $.
We wheeled in to the Gulf station, adjacent to the CROSSROADS Cafe (Jct 45 and 82). Man in back got out put in a few $ worth. Quiet/Wait.
So a few moments later he slam hooks the hose and crawls back in. Jaws a little tight. That dam gas is $31.9. Lets go. So we tensley rode on to Columbus for 29.9. A sobering moment.. Sometime in 57 I think as was a bunch of Beneke drivers.

Or oil, or propane lamps. You can still buy those they are not as common or convenient but are available and do the job pretty well.
Also had a household propane refrigerator that worked very well. All still around for people who live or have cabins off the grid.

Don't tell our local ex-electrician I said that.
