Keep in mind about 1934, OVERTIME is NOT LEGAL in trucking industry. They are specifically excluded from OT in the then new wages law mandating minimum wage for a 8 hour work day.
I had a glorious oppertunity at the Port of Baltimore talking with a mid level supervisor one day. My future if I had joined besides the dues and meetings and so on would be totally different than what it is now. I would have if I got medically retired from that Port I would get a state pension plus a Union Pension in addition to social security., If I was a vet colleting VA I would get that too. That's called double dipping or even triple dipping. Your future in retirement would be very bright financially indeed.
Never mind all that. I am pretty close to getting the CDL A back into the pocket and moving forward back into hauling medicines out of Memphis as I have done before. The actual work is not going to be difficult and the money being twice what they were 20 years ago will take care of itself.
I have been in many ways able to do what I wanted to in life. I literally have no complaints about it overall. Much of what I do now is a form of solving problems. because I know 30 years from now when I get into the mid 80's things will be much much different. You would have to shoot me first before I see a nursing home ever. We have one not far from here and the way the 20 something staff unconsciously abuses the elderly is pretty tough. If you have a relative in one, do whatever it takes to have a living camera rolling 24/7 recording back to your tape at home away from the staff.
We were involved with mental health elderly for a time after cancer was taken care of for a number of years. Some of the things we have witnessed and seen first hand what happens to some of these people who have family or not are not good for them. So we treasure and value our independent living very much. Because not all of us will get to decide what our future holds for us. It may be the State that makes those decisions for you. And you would be unable to do anything legally.
What if it Snows?

Ughhhh thunderstorms tonight. My job kinda sucks in the rain. Whoever designed the building put lights on the outside of the building mirror height between the doors so between them and wet mirrors you can't tell if you are straight until you are pretty much all the way back to the doors.
RidgeRunner731, InTooDeep, Rocks and 2 others Thank this.
