Stand-by time ! Sometimes, if you bid the contract right, you can net better money if the equipment doesn't come off the trailer. I don't need the exact figures but do your fire people pay approximately 3/4 of the running rate on the dozers for active standby? How 'bout the lowboys?

we get 85% of the $225/hr roadbuilder tri axle rate for sitting. full rate to and from any fires. we don't have to bid, but to be on the rotating list companies must be COR certified. it's a major pain in the ### and a pile of paperwork...but worth it if you get a solid 2 week hitch parked waiting for a fire. most I've got for consecutive days without having to go anywhere was 23. easy money! now they limit time to 2 weeks, then they rotate crews so everyone on the list gets a piece. can't have any oil leaks, both trucks and equipment are inspected every day. failure results in ejection.

Well, I seen a clown truck today, I guess it would be called that.
250 spots in this TA, I am parked, motor off reading a very important book on incompetence in the workplace, and how to deal with ignorance, while this flatbed, backs against the grain on the painted lines, finally backs beside me, leaves truck running, lights all on, comes out with the biggest dog ever seen.. maybe even a grizzly, then I assume, his daughters..sons..wife..and a small dog.
You would think, that would be all.
The the truck goes to rocking hard side by side, and this humongous? (Spellcheck that one after my book)

Huge even by huge standards of a hm.. person whos belly rubs their ankles while walking...waddling by gets out, still leaving the awful racket
    It reminded me of this..
