I would think, the in service date is used. My Truck sat a long time, at the factory, then at the Dealer. It’s an 01, w/ 99 engine. Freightliner system shows its a 2000. Go figure. Nobody wanted her. I think that’s why She’s so Loyal.

    New type of scam?

Heard a new one a minute ago. Sitting in my chair, almost fell asleep.. these 230 mornings.. I am not setting alarm tonight..
Anyway, some guy knocked on door and I lowered window a bit, and said, “No! No Company! You Go Now!”
He said, “I work for a radio station.. where you from?”

Me.. “Well. One cold night years ago back, in I’d say Feb. my mother and father got bored and cold and..
He cut me off and said, “Here sign my book and put down city and state, and we’ll announce your name on the local radio station!”

Me, “I am not signing anything, I am not going to play the part of a fool and sign a notebook and put my city and state down.”

Then he said, “What about the children? We’re trying to raise money for them through the station!”

Me “Better find a new trick, cause that dog just aint gonna hunt.”

He then wanted me to roll my window down further so he could show me a dvd cover of some movie he was in.

So I said, I thought you were a DJ, not an actor.. so noway was my window going down further, so I ended the conversation with something from proverbs..

“If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet.”

    And the window closed..

My understanding (when I was looking at that option) was it was based on "in service date". Which is entered into Cummins central computer by the factory authorized install shop.

It is something that you should verify with the shop. Cause the way the shop I was talking with said something along the lines of "Seriously do you think I could sell this things with an expired 2 year warranty cause they got rebuilt 3 years ago?" And that the "in service date" would be after a test drive, I paid him, and he handed me the keys.

Yea but those guys are hard ball players over there. I don't know if they would tell you something to move the truck, and then what's in writing isn't the same.

I figure the truck is a '19. Probably been there since '18, and the engine was probably manufactured sometime in '18.

Which also makes me wonder what kind of problems may arise just from it sitting so long.

    Ah so a "new" truck.

Build date (MO/YR) should be embossed on the engine Serial number tag.

Should also have a build date on the door frame tag based on Chassis manufacturer.

If it is one of those super sleeper trucks, Get the Engine serial number and call the manufacturer to verify that there no existing recalls/service bulletins. Second ask would be let them know it is supposed to be new and ask if they show an in service date.

Thats actually pretty slick. Not that Ive not been around a block a time or two. Just needed to think on it a little. (Thats the problem... the thinking...)

You are good not to sign a #### thing.

One recent scam is to call someone random. They answer (Because area code and first three are spoofed) and ask them a stupid question or something designed specifically to get you to say yes.

Once you say yes, they hang up.

The recording of your voice print yes is engineered into a vareity of computer driven theft electronically. If you can imagine a consent challenge for a credit card etc.
