Voltage regulator is part of the alternator??? You can't break them apart?

Yes, you can replace the regulator. It does not require full disassembly of the alternator. Usually only removing the rear cover, 2 bolts, then 4 screws for the regulator. Have done a few where I did not even take it off the engine. YouTube probably has a bunch of videos on this.

 

14.2 is the appropriate charge value. Tho most vehicles normally only run around 13.6 volts.
