I don’t seem to understand what people’s mentality is of, well I’m hauling freight, and your not, so I’m making money and your not.
A guy I know called and told me about some rice loads paying $32/ton going to Mo, up near ST Joe.
I told him,”Ain’t no way.”
Said he was doing it, and was going to try and load over where I brought corn back from KC to AR.
I told him he was losing money, he didn’t understand.
I told him it’s 400 loaded miles, plus 60 DH to get the load, total 460 miles.
32x25 Ton=$800-10% broker leaves $720.
Say 80 gallons @3.30/gallon is $263.92
Now your truck is down to $456.08.
Just throwing truck/trailer & insurance is at least around $100/day.
Now we’re down to $356.92.
What do you pay yourself...? So say 200, so you get around $1000/week.
Your truck made maybe $156.92, in a perfect world.
Now you are in ST joe.
No loads there so you DH to at least KC.
There’s another 60ish miles, just say 10 gallons, there’s another $30.
Boy we sure made a kill on’ on that load, didn’t we?
That’s why I’m sitting hone watching Jerry Springer, eating cheetos.

They say,”that’s what happens when you pick loads, you just gotta haul, haul, haul.”

 

I finally determined that my ole daddy was a pretty smart man.
Took a while, but it has come clear several times. On skunks....
He said locate, back off and go get a .22 rifle, loaded with hollow
points. Shoot him low in the stomach area. Sorta paralyzes till dies.
(The logic is they urinate on their tails, then swish the tail to spread.)
Limited warranty: Shot sound receding to silence is its length.

 

Wonder what he would have given for a slightly used; but completely functional, hazmat suit.

 

The official "season" for trapping (live) over-populated feline....begins 01/01 ends 12/31, every year.
