USFS already took that stance back on 7/4 when they opted to "monitor" a 40 acre lightning fire....stayed at 40 acres for 2 weeks until the winds sent it ripping into Markleyville.....USFS and BLM have a long history od fighting fires in a "monitoring stance".....figures feds are idiots!

The Tamarack Fire started as a lightning strike in the Mokelumne Wilderness on a rocky ridgetop with sparse fuels and natural barriers to fire spread. Friday, July 16 high winds caused rapid downslope fire spread. With this change in the fire, resources were quickly dispatched to the site. Additional resources were ordered, including very Large Air Tankers (VLAT), Single Engine Airtankers (SEATS) and helicopters.

 

One morning of helicopter drops on the initial fire could have stopped the destruction....now into NV between Gardnerville and Topaz...395 is supposed to reopen this morning.

 

Well.
Until further notice, my unload appointment is 1730 tomorrow.

I’m exhausted, this sitting around waiting is just wearing me out.

Fire is needed for proper forest mgmt. The issue is not allowing proper forest mgmt. The "you can't log there" and "you can't burn there" crowd. Has our forests too thick with unmanaged under growth.
