I agree. I've done my part so far with my three loads. But I think the 100,000 that Swift and the other mega's have moved, carry more clout.

50% of the gross goes to truck, fuel, insurance, e.t.c. 30% goes to driver and 20% to the company. So from $20000 monthly gross, $10000 to truck, $6000 to driver and $4000 to company. That's a rough example and sometimes things are out of control, but that's what I usually try to do

So you would rather spend $525 to move 350 miles, instead of $175 dollars to move that 350 miles? It was my normal run, filled in the dead day between good paying regular loads.

No wonder truckers go out of business so often, they would rather spend their own money to deadhead. It is NOT always about what that one load pays, it is about the return of my investment that is important. And that run just put $350 in my pocket that before was an unneeded expense. $350 per week times 40 weeks is $14,000 a year in my pocket, that otherwise I would not have had.

Lol man you can't be serious. You're trying to justify 1.00 per mile as a filler then when somebody comes and take your money load and use it as a filler for 2.00 from 4.00 then what???? It's more to it than just "say no to cheap freight" but all you see is not DH to your money load. Smh 1.00 per mile on short miles is an insult. Even if it was a dry van you should at least command 2.50-3.00 per mile if your running your own numbers. But I guess the old saying "one mans trash is another man treasure" applies here. And if your are indeed pulling that 1.00 with a skateboard even if it is strap and go then there is no helping you.

Another reason to never pull dirt cheap loads: Every time a broker or shipper moves a load for dirt cheap it sends the message that their rate is acceptable.

That is called competition. And if a $1.00 per mile gets money in my pocket, I will take it.

So many people get hung up over what 1 load pays, and loose sight of the forest for the tree right in front of them.

What is cheap for you, is profitable for someone else.

I don't need or want your help, as it is obvious to me that you do not understand business economics, or that reducing expenses increases profit.

I try not to engage into the back and forth thing but you got me. May I ask what's your cost per mile?

For you it gets $0.22 cents per mile more for you effort. Not a huge significant bump but at the same time emboldens the brokers in that market to present every load at $1 dollar instead of $1.7 or $2 or whatever. In other words it depresses the rates in the market. It is the equivalent of throwing your trash out the window for your pretrip in the morning, a 'not my problem' attitude that someone else has to suffer for.
