If they put them under exclusive contract to pull their trailers and freight, they will stuck with Swift until they wise up.

Sapp at Clearfield pa for me today 3.224. Posted it says 3.479. Close enough.

It matters what's actually paid... don't get all starry eyed when they tell you they're giving you .80 off per gallon or whatever.

Looks like you are trying to find comforting reasons to back up your decision of getting into that lease deal ;)

I'm guessing that will end up in court. It doesn't make sense to help people become independent in order to continue having them dependent.

Okay, let's think about this a minute.

If you're getting $0.60 a gallon off and you're hauling freight for a $1.35 a mile average and another independent owner operator like myself is getting $0.50 off a gallon, but I'm hauling at $2.50 a mile average, the $0.10 a gallon you're getting by being tethered to Crete is peanuts in comparison.

I hate to point out the obvious, but someone had to do it ;-)

How much per mile do independent operators generally get for deadhead miles between loads?

I wonder if a self-insured company charges as much for their insurance as commercial insurance?

There are several built-in services and efficiencies built into being an o/o under another company.

I am not arguing that running o/o under Crete is superior to doing it solo, but that 1.35 per mile is NOT the whole story.

I plan on eventually going under my own authority, but I am learning the first steps under Crete/Shaffer's authority.

The o/o's who say that working for any company is a worthless waste of time and money are likely the same people who say that company drivers working for megas can't really make over 60k per year.

Agreed. Fortunately the fuel savings are not the only built in savings. I posted about that a bit earlier.

Leasing to Crete for $1.30 per mile? Leasing to a carrier, not lease purchase, I guess that's the confusion

I bought my truck brand new is December of 2015. Volvo 670 with operator specs and a 5 year extended warranty. My lifetime mpg is 7.26. My maintenance (including tires) on the truck to date is 0.05 a mile for 318,000 miles.

I financed it at 5.5% through a local bank. I put a 7 year loan on it so as to get my feet underneath myself at $1,746 a month. In the interim, I closed the gap on the amortization schedule from a seven year to a 5 year schedule.

Shortly after I bought the truck I purchased a brand new 2016 53' Utility trailer with skirting at $30,000 with 10% down at 5.5% interest, the payments are $475 a month. I owe $8,500 on it now and could pay it off, however, it really doesn't benefit me tax wise to do so.

My truck insurance including the trailer & cargo is $650 a month.

I have a Michelin owner operator account that provides me with tremendous discounts on tires.

A local dealership allows me to park for free on their lot, In exchange I have them do "B" services on my truck when it needs it.

My fuel costs are pretty darn competitive with what you've posted.

I do ALL of my own paperwork, including taxes, etc.

What other "built-in savings" do you receive at Crete for $1.35 a mile that are much better?

In addition, when I posted my average per mile, that includes all deadhead.

Not trying to prove anything to you, except to provide a different perspective on how you're viewing these "built-in savings" and "perks" you're receiving at Crete, really aren't all that.
