Whatever you decide to carry, please get good quality training with it - and practice! There is a difference between training and practice. Without both, you won't do any good with your weapon.
Also, I think everyone should take a couple self defense courses. Krav Maga is a great choice. You learn how to de-escalate situations quickly.
Some of the other "martial arts" are bogus! Do research.
I carry a full-sized Glock 17 concealed with me everywhere I go and because of the fact I hold certain licenses in the State of Texas (with reciprocity in almost every state except CA, IL, and NY) I qualify quarterly on the range and written exams.
The best prevention is staying alert and using your head. If you've got your head up your ### then you are more likely to be victimized than someone that looks like they know whats up.
As for companies saying yay or nay, what they don't know won't hurt them. Follow state laws, don't worry about the company.
