Thats is not because of the other drivers not doing pre/post trips... Its because the driver dont want to waste there time on it because your company is to cheap to pay a driver for his work. This is a company being to cheap to pay a driver pproblem.

So did you return to get it signed?

They can't hold it but they can delay it. There is a difference.

    Get a lawyer?

No call the department of labor, first ask what the state laws are about paychecks being held, and the after they explain the laws, wait to the deadline and file if they haven't released it.

And what ever you do, don't act like a big shot. Don't threaten them with the lawyer bit or anything else.

the problem is...whether or not the trucking company is cheap is irrelevant. If you drop off a trailer that is not going to pass a DOT inspection and another driver gets assigned to that trailer to for a load you're putting that other drivers CDL in Jeopardy because you don't want to take it to a repair shop. That's not the company of being cheap that's you just not giving a f***. So yes I can and I will say it is the Driver's Responsibility to get a trailer fixed if they know that it's not going to pass the DOT inspection

Would suggestion same thing I used to have taken such matters to court and the judge knew my very well in good terms of course. Be sure have every piece of video, photos, and letters pertaining to this like ridgeline said don't mention the L word or say SUE you will get there lawyers involved too not saying you can't beat them but they prob have deeper pockets. You might get a countersue it can be bogus too but the point is they can make it hurt.

Couldn’t getting a lawyer possibly cost more than the value of the whole paycheck?

546 for a week is not the worst? I can't even imagine how bad my life would have to be for me to even get out of bed for that kind of money, let alone live on the road and do any sort of labor.

Yup, go pay a lawyer a grand or two to collect 546 bucks. lol
I was not even thinking about you being in Texas, call the labor board, Texas has the best labor laws in the country concerning getting paid for work performed.

Most people who suggest getting attorney have never actually paid $300/hr for an attorney. It adds up overwhelmingly fast.
