...when possible, please do not merge directly into traffic when you are only doing 15 MPH. The shoulder is there for a reason, an emergency lane. As long as it isn't obstructed in front of you, use it to accelerate a bit, with your flashers on, then make your way into the right lane. I bet I have seen at least 20 near misses already this year from drivers cutting right over from a dead stop, and usually in rural areas where you have room. Use your best judgement, and a little common sense.

first off, its emergancy parking only. Dont pull over on the high way to just take a piss or make a phone call. At least use an exit ramp for that. I see guys all the time not broke down, pull over and then back out shortly after.

I was taught from an emergency stop when trying to merge back on, to accelerate back up to 35mph minimum, staying off the rumble strips and then merge back on.

Course, I'll probably flamed for that.

I have seen drivers pull directly into the right lane from a dead stop, with traffic flying less the a few hundred feet behind them. Whatever the reason for pulling over, use common sense when merging. 18 wheelers don't stop on a dime, neither do 4 wheelers.

if you get rear ended merging on, its your fault...you must yield to traffic on highway. Even if they don't hit the brakes, its your fault.

had a moron do this very thing today on 75 coming out of Valdosta. Turned his 4 ways off, right off the shoulder he comes and me bearing down on him at 63 and 78k. Didn't even put a signal on.

Thank god the center lane was wide open and I was starting to move over anyway after a long line of cars had just cleared me. Don't think I'd have gotten stopped if I'd have been pinned in the lane.

    What at an idiot.

If you rear end somebody, it is your fault. At least in California, not sure on other states.

Yep rear end someone it is your fault period end if story that being said if there is any vehicle onvthecshoulder in front of you then you should already be off the gas looking for that hole to get over especially if its a big rig it stupid seeing these guys blowing by a guy changing a tire at 65mph just inches from him so maybe its not the guy on the shoulder right to just hump out there but you should have been well prepared for him to do it

Well I broke down one day on 90 east in SD one of our driver came and pulled in in front of me as I had my flares out. I fixed the problem and signalled to pull back out, there was a rig coming about a mile and a half away and the left lane was clear, the ####### blew his airhorn as he passed. After giving him a piece of my mind on the radio I suggested we pull over and look at the video from my cameras. If you have a clear lane it is common sense to move over and give the truck some room but some steering wheel turners have the brains of a retread tire.
