Wow, that collision thing sounds like a safety feature that "could" become a safety hazard. I know you guys have no choice, but I don't think I'd pay the extra bucks for it. I suppose it's another of those things that cut insurance rates under the guise of safety?:biggrin_2557:

Sure there is. Make sure you absolutely know what's going on in your blindside before you do it. And if you cut in too soon and clip a big truck? You think PAM is going to appreciate that? How about if you blow a steer just as you pull in, 5 feet ahead of that big truck?

Not really. Safety says that rear-end accidents are down 16% since they started using them about 5 or 6 years ago. It gives you some advance notice that someone is starting to slow down quickly when it starts chirping. That's not a bad thing. Also, if you're in an accident the last 30 seconds of activity can be preserved in the system's processor.

The only time they're a pain is when the radar gets a false echo (happens under a bridge or overpass very occasionally, and in lefthand curves depending on traffic.

BTW... next model year of top-end four-wheelers will have this technology.

A friend and I were once talking about how bad drivers are getting, and he mentioned a theory that as cars get safer, drivers get dumber. We have all these safety features now (which are good things, I'm not denying that) so drivers have lost any fear of driving as a dangerous activity. I can see this rear end collision avoidance system as giving drivers an excuse to drive distracted even more than they already do. "Well, it doesn't matter if I text, the car will alert me before I run into anything."

I was just thinking the same thing, they could likely punch out a couple extra text messages a day with this system. Efficiency at it's finest.:biggrin_255:

I'll second that stuff! It's like the winners in the north who think 'I have anti-lock brakes and 4-wheel drive, I can drive as fast as I want on crappy roads in the winter'. Those folks are called 'ditch bait'.:biggrin_25525:
