I don't have a us map at hand but I think NH is WAY up in the Northeast where truck stops are few and far between... oughta be relatively cool up there....

Once I had to go pretty far up in the Northeast to deliver dog food. I got to overnight behind the receiver, nice and quiet....

I don't care what you guys think about my ol' evil carrier... they fix the A/C, and the APUs (after an abortion of an experiment) are all diesel powered. Big Springs NE... dropping the trailer at the drop yard in the AM, and taking a few days off. Missing the fireworks with the kids tonight though...

We tried the battery-powered APU experiment a couple of years ago when the lightweight tractor program started... a lighter weight, green solution. Epic FAIL. :biggrin_25512: The company guys went without the APUs until the last year or so when they gave up on that little disaster, and started installing the diesel powered units on everything. Of course, even with idling for cooling, they still had to toe the fuel economy line. And yeah, that's one of the things that did suck about ol' evil carrier.

Well, after screwing around with this thing, thinking that 13 years in the trucking world MUST have taught me something, I decided to try the last resort....that is, not including a physical means of tamping the pedal every 90 minutes. I tried the ol' "once-you-see-the-idle shut down-light-come-on-tap-the-accelerator" trick. Only it didn't take five minutes....I had to time the thing and at about 85 minutes in, keep an eye on the dash.

AHA! The moment arrives....the irksome amber "Idle Shutdown" lamp comes to life. I leap (OK....I squeeze between the laptop and the driver's seat) into position....tap the accerator a few times....and VIOLA'! I speak French!

    NO!

The thing is still idling, some 4 hours later! Idle, you mechanical wench! I've got your number! And the number is 90!

So now....I at least have some hope. Still looking at other opps, but for now, there is hope.

I really hate changing jobs. But this is only a temporary fix, not a solution to Crete's poor policy.

Things must really be bad at Crete.

You think maybe their air conditioners in the office only run every 90 minutes?

Sad thing is that they might see this and make another change.

I thought of that....nearly posted my truck number to dare them to do so! But I'm at the point where, hey...they find out, so be it. To be really honest, I think the rank and file (drivers and breakdown/shop folks) are so sick of this mess the brass can't legitimately say anything about it.

I should add that I still plan to get to a company facility tomorrow after unloading to try to...again...get this thing fixed. I'll keep the back-up plan I'm using today in my notebook....
