A lot of Native shops cater to drive-thru tourists who look at 'Skins as circus monkeys and novelties. Shop owners put the "junk" out where it's easily seen for those knotheads so they can turn a quick buck on a small investment. The "real" stuff is usually more toward the back of the store and is sold on consignment.

When you want something made by a Native, look for the signature tags. Each item produced by a Native has that individual's name on a tag somehow attached to it...or, in some cases, is engraved in the item.

Not to worry too much. Unless you bought one on the rez, it's probably "fake" even if a skin did make it. Unless it has an Iktomi (spider) in it, it's just a nice piece of artwork. I've never seen a real one sold off of a rez.

Something just really wrong with that ya know! :biggrin_2555:

IP, if you really know about this, you will know a real dreamcatcher (or other article) is never sold. It is given. The expectation is something will be given in return.

Sure... especially for sacred objects. But in the waschichu world, you can't go down to the local buffalo herd for a steak - at least until the hoop of the oyate is renewed. It takes green to survive, so many folks will trade a dream catcher for a little green.
