Kit Carson, CO at the Trading Post Restaurant. Had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, salad and cherry pie for dinner. MMM-good! TruckerDawg looks happy - he got his share!

Yes, you are correct. This dedicated account pays only for the miles run, no extras... You know, I have been in this account for over 4 yrs because it used to be good... when the load planner was there. But since she was laid off, everything started going down hill... I don't blame my DSP... He is a great professional and doing the best he can but it is too much work for only one person. He had a helper for a while but she quit... I wonder what will happen to this Walmart account... The contract will expire in July, I think... and I wonder if they will renew it... But even if they do, don't think it will ever be what it used to be when load planner was there...

So yes, you are right about what you said and I thank you for your comments... Other changes coming our way in the near future like the changes to HOS... I almost feel like taking a loooooong vacation then to re-evaluate things and take care of other matters....
Giggles the Original, NDBADLANDS and teddy_bear6506 Thank this. -
Hey Eaton!! That's a beautiful picture...
I could almost hear the wind and the crickets...
Love places like that... specially at night, when the sky is clear and we can see soooo many stars...
Tonight I am at a rest area in IL. Going to Hammond, IN for drop & hook and then another p/up about 3 hrs southeast of there... But supposed to p/up on Monday... Will call shipper tomorrow and see if they can load me this weekend. From there, going to New Braunfels, TX. Haven't been there since last year...
Eaton18 Thanks this. -
New Braunfels... much preferable to the dump that is Hammond!

Isn't there a part of the new HOS regs coming in July, that says you can't take more than one 34 hr reset in a 70 hr period? If so, what is your company going call these 3 resets in one week? A forced or mandatory vacation without pay? How would you log that? I tell ya' Rocks, you sure put up with waaay more than I and I think a lot of other drivers would. The small family company I driver for, doesn't really like us idling, several trucks have bunk heaters, and idle time limit cut-offs. I have neither and can and do idle all night if it gets below 40 degs. Owner has no problems with this. I was talking to him just yesterday, discussing the new Peoplenet feature of entering and sending in our fuel purchases. He remarked about how just .2 mpg difference fleet wide adds up to a six-figure dollar amount in just a year. But he also does not expect anyone of us to sleep in a freezer or refrigerator.
I guess since your paid by the mile and not load, your company figures it's saving money by not having you move. How that rationale comes about is beyond me, since they also are not making a dime with you just sitting around for days on end. Even if you're not running the truck, burning fuel, it's still costs them, like insurance for example. That truck is nothing but a huge yard ornament if it's just sitting still.
Sort of off topic here, but in that same conversation about the Peoplenet fuel feature, he said that this was just the small step to get us indoctrinated to what's coming very, very soon.... ELOGS. Yep, by the end of this year, and probably by July, we will be on ELOGs. I also clued him in on how some DOT require the driver to print the last 7 or at least that days logs. He stated that they could fax it to them if the need be. Currently we do trip-sheets, but this fuel feature is to do away with the trip sheet. He's not a computer geek type, and was really blown away, by just how easy it is for him now to do his IFTA reports. He said that in just a matter of a few seconds his IFTA report was done, where before it would take forever to get them ready.
Also "reading between the lines" at what he was saying, it was not FMSCA, regs or DOT that sold him on converting to ELOGs, it was the vendor, Peoplenet. Yep, package deals. That fuel add-on, costs him $7 and they offered him a package deal that included the ELOG at the same price. How could he turn that down, knowing that he would have to eventually.NDBADLANDS, teddy_bear6506 and Rocks Thank this. -
There's got to be one around there Logan. Just not thinking out of the box. Any of the major T/S (PFJ, TA/Petro, Loves) are casinos. Don't you gamble or bet that you're going to get something of value every time you stop? Isn't the deck always stacked against you? Aren't the odds always against you?...
