Hickory, NC getting unloaded. And angry as Hades, as I should have been home this weekend visiting my kids and grandkids.

I've had it with being a company flunkie. Over the next six months, I'm seriously looking into buying my own truck (not a lease op deal) and going from there. I know what I have to bring home, so I've got a benchmark. But I've got to hang onto my current position (where at least the miles have been decent) through at least September.

But I've had it with the suits that run these companies. Patience is gone, and this morning, so is my voice.

Keep your head up Zen, you'll be fine!!!

Rocks.. You were at a Strip mall..:biggrin_2555:, When did they start putting those kind of establishments in malls? Ok, gets mind out of gutter. I've always thought this was a strange name for those, since Strip has/was mostly associated and used with Clubs..

TB.. Wow, read that post about your problems with finding drivers for those loads, the favoritism. What a bunch of crap, and sadly probably the reality in a lot companies. I know our dispatcher has his favorites, the "elite" that get what they want, and are not compelled to do much. Looks like you handled it the best anyone could of.

Yesterday, I left Junction City at 0-dark thirty (3:45 am), headed for Wichita, via US-77. Made it there at 5:45 am, and promptly dumped. Then headed to Lyons, per the dispatch. I figured that since it was Friday, the start of a holiday weekend, I would just have to preload... wrong. I was to load and deliver to KCMO again. Not that bad, except the time it takes. Mind you I started my day at 3:30. It's at least 3.5 if not 4 hrs from Lyons to this place in KCMO. It was a 2 hr drive from J.C. to Wichita, then it takes more time dumping flyash, since we must sweep out our trailers. It's just shy of 2 hrs from Wichita to Lyons, which does not open until 8 and they don't really start loading until about 8:15ish. Finally it's about 2 hrs from KCMO back to the shop in Lebo, minus any traffic problems, and we all know there's never anything like that in KC..

Well I made it back without running out of hours. I used the I-70 route, so I would not have all the little slow-down towns to deal with. The slow-poke cars and 62mph trucks on the 2-lanes that I couldn't get around. However the Flint Hills around J.C. really slow a big truck down climbing them. The other side of those hills make up for that though. On a couple of them I hit 80mph, jakes a rumbling, while passing a few of those 62 mph big trucks. I even managed to pass one going up a hill. Then once I got dumped, I hauled rear-end down I-35, managed to run 72-73mph (truck capped at 73) from coops to my exit.

Oh for those that run I-35, keep in mind that this time of year, Olathe-Lenexa areas, are using the "Evil Knievel" cops. The motor-cops, can't seem them until it's too late. It's 65mph through there and traffic flows at 70+ mph. They will single someone out of all that mess and go after them. I think it's mainly those that run 80ish.

My A/C went out Thursday night while camping at J.C. Air does not flow into or through a truck parked between trucks, especially when there's not much wind. The a/c for my sleeper was making a loud noise, and found out the fan was being held in by one little screw. The others must have came loose and fallen out. Now couple that with the 1-man band that played at Cox BBQ, using an impressive PA system. You know those idiots that have the subwoofers in their cars you can hear a mile away? Yep, rumbled the truck. This BBQ place was just across the street from me. So I managed about 2 hrs of sleep.

I'm home for the holiday weekend. We don't work Memorial Day. Will have to load on Tues morning, but not early, at Chanute with CKD (kiln dust) for Andover. Luckily this is not one of them 6am dump times. It doesn't have to be delivered until around 12 or 1pm. Don't have any holiday plans since wife has to work. She's a LEO dispatcher, and they like a lot of truck drivers, don't get all holidays off.

Just remember what this holiday is all about. A memorial for all those that fought in wars for our country, to defend our freedom, so our current leaders can take it away.. (I didn't say that did I )... Be safe out there..

Sounds like fun.. Just remember "Don't feed those bears".

Isn't it amazing how now you can be out in the wilderness, but still watch TV, surf the internet, make phone calls? Back when I was kid, when we went camping. We had a tent, then later a crank-up camper, and only the radio in the car, which was only used for weather updates. Yep, it always seemed to storm when we would go camping. We were too busy fishing, swimming, water-skiing, exploring.

Zen! Perhaps I haven't been paying attention but I hope for the best for ya!
Eaton! Good on ya man! It feels GOOD to make it in time don't it?

As for me. I ran my tail off yesterday. The best stuff was 12K and almost 12K for short distance and 4K across town. Haz Mat a couple times. Including getting told about the last one at 17:30 and actually getting it picked up at 18:20. Got it delivered and out of there at 19:10. Finally rolled in home 21:05. Bed was calling loudly so no web before sleeping.

I am not even going to have the phone where I can hear it until Tuesday morning!

Hey Eaton, you show a very good heart. :yes2557: Wish I could meet you in person some day... About the strip mall... :biggrin_2559: For a second I thought I had written something wrong... :biggrin_2556: and rushed to Wikipedia... This is what I found: "A strip mall (also called a shopping plaza, shopping center, or mini-mall) is an open-air shopping mall where the stores are arranged in a row, with a sidewalk in front. Strip malls are typically developed as a unit and have large parking lots in front. They face major traffic arterials and tend to be self-contained with few pedestrian connections to surrounding neighborhoods."

Last night I moved truck to a secluded area in that mall parking lot and it was very quiet all night long... :yes2557: This morning I moved truck again. Now right next to McDonald's.... so I can sit inside where I can see truck, plug my laptop in and do my online "business"....

Called Walmart dispatcher today and was told they don't have any store load for me today. Good enough. If they don't have any load tomorrow either while I am still waiting to p/up my next load on Tuesday, I will request layover from my company.

It's a beautiful day.... there are beaches nearby.... have been there before.... back on those paper log days....:biggrin_2557: But now can't go anywhere.... stuck here with this elog and my company rules for personal conveyance... :biggrin_25510:

Rocks, in the USA, a Strip Club may also be referred to as a Gentleman's Club. They are usually frequented by men (and the unknowing public seem to think truck drivers can always be found hanging out in them). Women strip, dance, etc for money. I do know there were a couple that were very receptive to allowing trucks to park in their lot. Eaton was teasing you about the Strip Mall/Strip Club.

Once again Eaton, you've made me tired just reading about your week. I've noticed the cycle cops along 435 for the past couple weeks. They certainly do sneak up on ya. These Chargers and Mustangs are kinda difficult to judge whether they are cops or just regular folks. Personally, I get a good laugh out of all the folks who see a LEO and slam on their brakes. I never get worried about it, because my cruise is always set for at least 3-5 miles under the speed limit. I figure if I'm not doing anything wrong, there is no reason for me to hit my brakes, other than because the fool in front of me hits his and slows way down.

    Everybody enjoy the weekend.

LOL Teddy_bear... :biggrin_2559: Yes, I know what strip clubs are :biggrin_25525: But for a second, I though had misspelled something or that these malls were not called strip malls... Eaton almost got me.... but not quite yet... :biggrin_25519:
BTW, sometimes I would like to park at some strip clubs parking lot... specially when I am low in hrs and there's one, conveniently located with lots of parking.... But wouldn't do it for my company's name reputation and Walmart trailers that I pull....
