I’ve never seen a chicken farm with a lagoon. Hog farms yea but not a chicken farm. What type is it? Now I’ve hauled some that was liquid, not supposed to be, but it was still in the house. Took forever to get it loaded. It would pour out of the bucket as fast as it went in. Lol. That stuff was nasty and slick too.650cat425, PoleCrusher, cke and 6 others Thank this.

Well, the way I see it, the job is really 50% being a farmer/rancher, 40% veterinarian, and 10% truck driver.
I suppose there are livestock haulers who aren't country boys with a background in farming' , but that puts them at a distinct disadvantage.
Hauling the livestock is just one aspect of their cycle of life, so it helps to understand the way their minds work, what their physical needs and limitations are, how to "read" them (both individually and collectively), and be able gauge their health and stress levels when loading and traveling.
Its not like general freight.
Every passenger has a beating heart that is susceptible to fear, pain, and misery. Its the driver's responsibility to mitigate those factors and safeguard their needs.
It's not all about haulin' ### and looking cool.
In fact I'm the slowest driver on the road. But here in Northern New England there isn't a straight piece of road longer than two trailer lengths so in order to not throw the livestock off their feet you need to be a slow smooth driver. I understand its different out west with long straight roads.
Each type of animals have their own criteria/ needs when loading and traveling . The weather, time of day, the seasons, all dictate your pre plan and running schedule. To he11 with the driver's needs. Deal with it.BoostedTeg, 650cat425, kwswan and 10 others Thank this. -
Sissy window.. Back wall of my bunk got a big hole I can sneak a peek out..
When blind siding I can peek out & get a look at the wagon angle. Gives a good idea of when to walk the truck out front of the wagon again..
It's not that I enjoy blindside backing. I've become fairly decent though, as I am forced to every time I go home to get in my yard. Have to dodge 2 fences, my mailbox, & a phone pole..

LoL,
Oh I got out of the truck 3 times!!
A parking spot ain't worth bump'n into another rig.!
Probably took me 90-120 seconds to slip in. Nobody else wanted to attempt that spot. I had the added pressure of not turning off the cb, & listening to a couple Rambo's betting on how I'd give up.. lol. If you remember, I was then rewarded for my effort by having to endure the goon next to me's air drier popping off every 18 seconds till I left..!

Found that to be a very informative answer; I agree with the first part about having to be a veterinarian at times, I don’t possess the knowledge yet of how to care for cattle650cat425, PoleCrusher, cke and 3 others Thank this.

I don’t know if it’s just me but with my windows closed I can’t really hear anything outside lol reefers are only annoying with them down, but the most annoying was a truck with a loud engine; the hardest thing for me is setting up, especially when trying to do a 45 or so, can’t get the arse end of my trailer where I want it650cat425, PoleCrusher, cke and 3 others Thank this.
