In alberta its 950 hours per year and a min of 181 days.
My daughter in high school starts at 830, done at 317.
The sped school I run to does more days, but less time per day. That's all you can get out of those kids. 915-150.

I enjoyed trade school immensely. If I recall nait was 8-3. Wednesday the campus bar had .25c beer. Then it went to 1$ beer. I slept in the parking lot or took transit home a few times.

I took my grade 12 year in a college program. I'm not sure I'd have graduated if I had to have spent grade 12 in highschool. The only thing that sucked about attending a college campus at 17 was the legal drinking age was 19. I couldn't go to the campus bar with the rest of the guys after class on Fridays.

A lot depends on the grade. The high schools seem to run longer days. All seem to start about 08:00ish AM. The lower grades seem to be done by 3:00 PM

It was opposite of that where I went. 9th grade was regular hours, 10th could get out at 2:30 if you had a job, 1:30 11th, 12:30 senior year.

I liked work much better than school, so I quit my senior year.

School hours/months in the US confused me when I first got here.

In NZ because of the hemisphere flip, summer break was Dec 15th to January 30th, roughly 6 weeks. There were 3 'terms' (later changed to 4), that had a 2 week break between them. So of 52 weeks, we had about 12 off, the other 40 was M-F, 7am till 3pm. The tax year also runs Jan-Dec.

The mental transition to working a 40 hour week was smooth - the weekends were dead quiet, everybody was off - even businesses closed Friday 5pm and didn't open at weekends. Saturday trading only became a thing when I was about 10 years old.

I see here in the area some schools are going to 4 day weeks. Dunno if that's a good idea or not.

Some districts have all year round classes. They have cycles. Not exactly sure how they work, this was something that came along well after I was out of school. My brothers kids were in a district that was using this system. They seemed to like it.
