    5/8" looks really good on bigger-framed handrails and gates, if that makes sense. Playing with hotter spots in the bar can yield some amazing twist patterns. Hotter areas will twist faster and tighter than cooler areas.
    Remarkably enough, rebar makes some good looking pieces as well. We cut several hundred feet of 1" into balusters for an interior timber frame stair rail. The customer hit them with a cup brush, which polished the ridges, but didn't change the color much between them. It turned out better than I thought it would.
