Many times while we're eating my wife will answer her phone...not because she thinks it's an acceptable thing to do but she's kinda the go to person for care of some older folks we know and pretty much all kids we know...so she'll answer in case it is something important....
She always tells them we're busy eating and I am always amazed that hardly anyone offers to get off the line and talk to her afterwards...they just keep on rambling.
And it's usually stupid stuff... doesn't anyone save things for actual in person conversation anymore?

@stwik That is a Tall boy sitting on the hood of the beater to give you a visual. Snow blower is back running with new belts and not puking oil now? Back to work on the chain gange!cke, Feedman, PoleCrusher and 16 others Thank this. -
I try to do that right off the bat in conversation, ask how/where the other person is.
Are they busy?
Got a minute to talk?
How’s the family?
How’s business?
Health ok?
Then ascertain whether it’s a good time to talk, and proceed from there.
I’m not a huge phone person, I usually have to be in the mood. I’ve dumped several ‘phone friends ‘ over time - they’d be the ones that don’t have the common courtesy to ask how things are - just barrel into their whining - or get upset if I don’t answer.
Love visiting with folks though.
I remember a guy years back - we chatted on the CB for hours. Got to a fuel stop, I got out to shake hands and grab a coffee.
Guy practically ignored me and couldn’t have departed quick enough.
Still to this day wonder what was going through his mind. He’d just spilled half his life story to us on the radio. -
I’m similar, talk your leg off in person hate the phone. I do have a couple of friends that I can talk to for hours though. I like my Push To Talk app that I use to BS with one of my buddies. It’s better than the phone.

Lol I'm kinda quiet if I don't know you in person. 6 beers later I'm bestfriends with a stranger in public. Annoyes the heck out of the Misses, got for bid its someone to talk about trucks and things. Cue eyeroll!

If I’m at work or on a mission I don’t talk at all put my head down and plow. In a store or something I won’t bother people unless it seems right. However I’m the guy that talks to the other people at the gas pump and BS’s with the waitress/waiter or person behind the counter. I’ve found if you treat them decent it seems to make their day better. Most people are anti social and can be rude.

The fix for the tires being too close to the fenders...adding a 2"x3" section of tubing between the frame and the spring hangers.
It's probably not the ideal way to cure the problem but it should work.

Your right, you ever been in the wrong, or needed help and you go in someplace and talk real nice like your their long lost friend. Normally works, and will get things done. The girl who has had truck drivers scream at her all week. You go in polite, make her laugh and guess who is in a good mood! Guess who gets good service? This guy. Well I try. Can't do it with everyone but the wife thinks I have a gift. Bartender or waiter/waitress or waitress have a crap day. Next thing you know they are laughing and joking. I'm willing to make fun of myself if thats what it takes. -
Conversation is actually an art.
I’m the guy walking into the weigh station cracking jokes with the DOT. Was at a scale in Missouri with an OSOW. Walked inside to show my permit and asked about the HIS and HERS restrooms. “What happens when an “other” is confused and has to go really bad?”
The scale masters nearly fell out their chairs laughing. They hadn’t got to cross that bridge yet.
