Thank ya sir! If I get near it again I’ll get that serial number, if it’s still there.
When I was a youngun, dad bought an old Case wide front tractor to brush hog and take care of the 2 acres we lived on. It came with a parts tractor which was similar but had the narrow front end. I put many a mile on that old tractor and never left the spot next to the shed, pretending I was truckin.
Anyway, 1982 the boom went bust. Elk City became a ghost town. Company dad worked for finally shut down in ‘85, and there were no good jobs to be had. Moving was not an option. Got family here. We lost the car, the house, and the 2 acres. Dad sold his almost-complete 1950 Plymouth business coupe for $700. 2 guys drove down from Enid to load it up, but after driving it, they decided to just drive it home instead of haul it. All it needed was paint and it was done. Show quality.
We rented a place in town and dad started all over with a minimum wage job working at the landfill for the city of Elk. Found a little house and bought it for nearly nothin since the banks were just about giving them away at the time.
Fella named Roy that ran the local Kawasaki shop and also traded some used cars saw that old tractor in the back yard. Offered a trade and dad took it. For a 1970 Chevy longbed, 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree, no power nothin, heat didn’t work, etc. My first truck, after I paid for it of course.
Anyway fast forward 30 somethin years. I came in from a job a year or so ago and there’s that tractor in the picture sitting in our shop, being worked on. I walked around it thinkin how much it looked like the one I spent all that time on as a kid. Asked the boss who it belonged to. Trey Canard (some of y’all might recognize the name, if you’re into motocross at all (@tony97905 )) Well, Roy was Trey’s dad. I’m pretty sure it’s the same tractor and dad is just not remembering the year.
Dad retired a month or so ago from the city job. Him and mom still live in that same little house over on 1st street. He never fixed up another car after that Plymouth, and never had another tractor.
Nothin I’d like more than to buy that old tractor back. I don’t need it, just wanna park it in dad’s back yard where it belongs.
