AAAAH - @stwik - YOU LITTLE BUGGER, you got me.
I thought about this a while, and broke out the laptop. Be warned, scroll and thanks - it might turn out long. And I thought maybe I better enclose in a PM, but I'll throw it out to the fast moving river that is this thread, that it be washed away.
I'm sure there's other childless members out here, with disconnected families that might relate. I have no biological children, and a non existent family relationship with elders and siblings. I would like my relationship with my father to be existent, but it just isn't. My mother and one of two sisters haven't spoken for over 5 years. One sister and I still speak - that's it.
The complications I've brought on myself - why complain if I chose to start a life thousands of miles across the ocean. I view water thicker than blood. Many friends in life have been stronger bonds than family ever was.
@stwik - Shortly after I met my wife, she went through early menopause. I was 28, she 34. I didn't think it was a big deal. She had 2 teenage boys already, it didn't matter.
From my first girlfriend at 16, my mother sternly warned me "Don't you get that girl in a 'family way' - it'll F__K your life up". And I was stupid enough to listen.
For the next 12 years I wore 3, pulled out - the whole 9 yards. Fatherhood seemed a curse. Yet as years went by, those that bore offspring just made it work, regardless. Old school thinking was what I succumbed to. You just make it happen.
Bitterness set in when I would see a conscientious hard working young couple fail to conceive, whilst the worst possible individuals pumped out offspring by the dozen - into a horror show of neglect.
I've watched my wife suffer the grandchild bug - even been cruelly manipulated by one with the step grandchild tease - and it's painful to watch. It's a way longer story I don't wish to divulge.
But as we are now - a 26 and 31 year old have produced no grandchildren, nor are in any way, shape, or form ready to provide for them in the forseeable future - and we'd have no problem stepping into the role of parents either.
I look at @ShooterK2 pictures now, and many of you members on here with children and grandchildren to enjoy - and I'm happy for all, yet sad inside. Especially on Fathers' day. Nobody to blame but myself. I'm not about to reverse my circumstance now, dump everything, start again, find a fertile lass and bang out 4 sprogs - just because I know what I know now. I married my wife for who she was, not what she could provide. I wouldn't change it.
I'm guessing you're in your late 20's - @stwik . Realize (you - and others here) that your wife bears an unfathomable (by men) burden of being unable to bear children. Whether you choose to adopt, foster or surrogate children ,it is a possibility you can consider now.
We both sit in truck stops, around the country, away from home. When that becomes a valid option over family weekends such as these, you have to give pause to why we are here. It's about what you choose. Question why some members here love their cats and dogs so much? I now know. Strays. They have the option of leaving - like children generally don't. And when you can win their affection, you realize that something else was missing in your life. Whoops - too late. That you were meant for greater care giving and enjoyment.
On a positive note - your position is one of the best for owning your own truck. If you don't know, we left a company gig that now pays over 80 cpm - and I can now 5 years later chuckle at that.
That'll build you and buy you a lot of 'stuff' - but, well - I think you get the post.
Sorry all - guess that was my 'therapy' moment for the month. I'm no old timer at 44 this year, but @stwik - I hope you'll take it on board.2CAN, SL3406, BoostedTeg and 28 others Thank this. -

We never wanted kids. Blammo.
My 10 year old son has been an absolute joy. Kind, humble, hard working, witty, and absolute savage at Jiu-Jitsu.
I realized life is what you make of it and there’s no reason it can’t be fun.Slowpoke KW, 1951 ford, Feedman and 16 others Thank this. -
