Not even close. I had an ‘82 Mustang. One of the few Ferds I’ve owned. Had a 4-banger in it that took a crap. I knew a fella that had a Mercury Zephyr, which was pretty much the same thing. He messed around and got it impounded. I posted bail for the motor. That one didn’t knock, but you could still ride a bicycle and get there faster.

Well, the start then die issue is resolved, now it's just an extended crank. Every time I crank it.

Put 2 tie rod ends on and 2 new steers today, still needs an alignment but the shakes are drastically reduced but I've got at least 2 bad shocks on the rear, ordering those and hopefully thatll take the rest out, if not then it's getting beads in the duals.

What did ya do to fix the start and die?

Extended crank could be something like an oil pressure sensor. They won’t fire up till the computer knows it’s got oil pressure.

Sounded like you examined the check valve and put the same one back in ?
Those are inexpensive and can appear fine but not be seating correctly.
The problem is worse now than before you checked on it, so retrace your steps and you will probably solve the issue. Replacing the check valve is what I would try first. You didn't replace it earlier did you ?

    Just learned something. Thanks.

@Lysdexis - that was my follow up / what did you do, and what resolved the start/stop.

What fuel filter did you go with, does it have a water drain?

Personally, I had better luck by - balance drives. Fit Centramatics. Tire guys look at me funny on balancing drives and trailers, they get the ‘I’m paying the bill here buddy’ speech.

Oh, also the ugliest vehicle I’ve owned award goes to Ferd. Had a 77 or 78 Ranchero one time. Got it on a trade deal. Now I can’t fault it mechanically. It ran good, drove straight and smooth, AC even worked. But the ladies were turning away in droves when I came rollin down the boulevard.

It was green. I had never painted a thing at that stage in my life, so why not learn on a $300 car? I mean, ANYTHING would be an improvement.....

A guy gave me can of Centauri white, and loaned me a Binks #7. I didn’t know how to adjust the nozzle, had the spray pattern sideways. That paint was tiger striped like crazy. Dry, then runs, then dry, then runs..... the whole car.

Still looked better white than that green. Still butt ugly though.

First winter wrenching we had a guy kill the clutch in a hydrovac. Locked it up solid so it wouldn't disengage. He had the boom out and everything so it had to be packed up before it could be towed. I show up and the driver's like "no idea how we're gonna tow this and the debris tank is half full of mud. It'll be frozen solid if it doesn't get dumped today."

Jumped in the truck, aired it up. Shut off the truck and flipped on the PTO. Bumped the starter over until I could hear the PTO engage. Packed up the boom and everything. Shut it off, kicked out the PTO. Stuffed it in LO LO and used the starter to get it moving. Drove it across the jobsite to the dump area. Used the starter to put it in reverse and back it up. Dumped the tank, then drove it to the gate for the tow truck to come pick up. Easy peazy.

Truck showed up at the yard on the hook an hour later. Tow truck driver was like "this truck has no clutch and its too tight in the yard to back it in the shop or to even get turned around." I said no worries man, drop it there and that truck will be in the bay before you can have your gear back in the wrecker. Soon as it hit the ground I had it turned around and in the shop bay. Clutch was so cooked the plates were warped into bowl shapes o_O

I had an 81 Mustang. 200 straight 6 and a hole in the shift boot that let water and slush splash all over the place when you were driving.
