Nhope just in threads about RM ELD50, don't want anyone spending their money on junk that doesn't work properly.
Its pathetic RM threw these on shelves of truck stops nationwide without making sure their product works properly.

p.s. hey Mark I've got one laying on passenger floor board. There's $100 spent, truck stop won't refund my money, what do you suggest I do with it?

Keep Truckin ... They advertised AOBRD with ability of having 15 mph motion threshold and they still have it disabled. Instead of making your stupid webinars got to work and get it done. That's pathetic!

Have you tried shooting it? Display costs $500 alone to replace...I saw a driver dropped one on the floor and it shattered display.

The short haul exemption has 4 requisites, which if you meet all 4 of them then you do not have to fill out a log book:
    1) You operate inside of a 100 air-mile radius (an air mile = a nautical mile, which is slightly farther than a statute mile so that 100 air-mile radius is actually 115.08 statute miles).
    2) You begin and end your day at the same location.
    3) You are released from duty within 12 hours.
    4) Your company maintains a record of your hours worked.

Any days which you fail to meet all 4 of those requirements, then you must fill out a log book for that day.

The 8/30 exemption means that if you typically operate within that 100 air-mile radius, you are generally exempt from logging requirements and therefore exempt from ELD's. They allow you 8 days failing to meet the short haul requirements in any rolling 30 day period (similar to your 70/8 or 60/7 work clocks, except you'll be "recapping" your days rather than hours worked). If you have to log a 9th day within a 30 day period, you'd better have an ELD. Once enough days fall off so that you're back within the 8 or fewer in 30, you can unplug the silly thing.

State lines have NEVER played a role in your ability to claim the short haul exemption, and I'm not sure where that ridiculous rumor got started. The federal government only has the Constitutional authority to regulate intERstate commerce...and the FMCSA as a government agency is bound by that. As such, that little green book with all of the federal regulations in it ONLY applies to intERstate operations. If you never cross a state line, you are intRAstate, and as such the federal government doesn't have any say over what you can or can't do. IntRAstate operations play by whatever set of rules the STATE has put in place to govern your operation. Sometimes that'll mirror the federal regulations, and other times you'll have a significantly different HOS to play with. Seeing as how that short haul exemption is in the federal regulations, it applies to intERstate operations...meaning crossing a state line cannot and will not disqualify you from being able to claim exempt status.

    Hope that answered your question.
