I have been searching.. besides prime which fleets sell their equipment? I thought Great Plains but didn't see it on their website. I know there is another one at least that sells reefer trailers. Thanks!!
Just about every mega fleet will sell their older trucks. Many are fleet maintained, and still offer a good value. The downside, is they are spec'd out for a fleet( 62 mph), usually have slew of miles, and they are getting rid of it before it needs more work. Guess who gets that chore? I've long said, find an O/O that's retiring. They can tell you everything they did to it, and was probably their baby. Do not, and I repeat, do not buy a truck from a dealer, if possible. Don't overlook truck or farm auctions, but be aware of what you are getting. Many times, if a truck is going to be repopped, they don't maintain it, but sometimes you can get a smokin' deal. Good luck.
Some companies have ‘truck brokers’ they continuously deal with that will take any, and all used equipment from them. Equipment reaches a certain point of expense vs. income, then that equipment is sent down the road. Phone call to one of their brokers, and across the Rio Grande it goes.
Best trailer I ever bought was a used Pride reefer. That was a few years ago though but I believe they still sell their old stuff.
Imho in your lookin for reefer wagon Randy Martin’s used are bout good as you can get Yes they’re plain Jane...yes hard to look at.... But most all double reinforced floors and deep freeze capacity since all specd for rail Best deals we’ve found were at Badger Utility in Madison
I inquired about buying a used reefer from Prime maybe 4-5 years ago and wasn’t able to. They had some policy that shut me out from getting one. Something about I needed to buy 5 units minimum or my fleet had to be a minimum of 5. Not sure exactly what it was..but they wouldn’t sell me one. Having cash in hand didn’t matter either.
