Technically, we are not supposed to be wearing the vest if, say for example, we stop to get something to eat. But sometimes we are so busy i "forget" to take it off.
i mean, if that annoys you then i don't know what to tell you. i mean we got bigger problems like Black people AND cops being shot now.

Like one poster above and you need them thats great. Majority are goofballs who think they look cool. Usually white dudes with bandanas

The only time I've sat at the counter having a meal and hearing fellow drivers complain about what other drivers wear, it always seems they think they are riding a horse instead of driving a truck.

when your stops are right down the street from each other, sometimes it isnt worth it to take them off(work gloves)

thtas different, mine dont get that dirty.i just need them for the grip or to stay warm.but i never really use 'em any way.

Coworker used to wear driving gloves, until we began hasseling him about it, he stopped. But, I do see a lot of P&D guys wearing gloves all day, friend that does it has two pair, swaps them out every day, wears a pair all day, exactly the reason @Russian Rabbit gave. Next day he wears the other pair, so they are always dry because of sweat, replaces both pair monthly.
AS for the safety vest, we are "required" to wear them at the railroads and a couple of the depot's. Maybe 15% of 400 local drayage guys actually do, but we do have some that wear them all day, I have two coworkers that do it, they say it's just a force of habit.
Safety shirts, company provides us with several different color shirts 9blue, black, grey), usually every 5 yrs they buy in bulk, recently they discussed getting them in the safety yellow, while annoying, I can understand the logic. Although I'm still waiting for her to buy me a blaze yellow winter safety jacket for chaining up.
Anytime I'm out of the truck doing something that doesn't involve paperwork, I wear leather gloves, hooking up, landing gear, twist locks, pre-trip, etc.. Actually I noticed Friday I'm due for a new pair as the existing are starting to tear, typically I buy a new pair monthly, and in the winter I have two pair I switch between because they get wet.Last edited: Jul 17, 2016

When I worked in construction we wore gloves all day. One friend of mine happened to have his gloves off at the moment and grabbed a 3/8ths chewed up wire rope and got thousands of little bits of wire rope embedded in his hands. He spent his entire lunch and breaks constantly working on pulling those out of his skin.
We did a lot of water work too, so leather gloves were no good for pulling in or working line (rope) that had been in the water for a long time that had barnacles all over it, they would cut up your hands pretty bad and the salty water getting in the cuts would make a grown man cry. Until they came out with those skin tight breathable gloves.... yayLepton1 Thanks this. -
I will further my comment about this. Early in my foray back into trucking I developed excruciating pain from my lower back down my left leg. Cheap seats in the Swift truck was a large part of the problem. I thought I might have to stop driving. After a couple hundred dollars in various seat cushions I bought an expensive Magic Gel cushion, then modified it to fit my boney ###. I also altered my setup, getting the seat farther forward, tilting it down slightly, eliminating the arm rests, with the steering wheel closer so my arms hang down. Not only did it resolve the pain in my back and leg, which took a couple of months, it eliminated the start of wrist pain. I can drive longer hours and stay more alert.
Deal with any pain EARLY. Don't wait until it is painful to get in a sitting position from bed or wait until you can't hold a glass of water.scottied67 Thanks this.
