Whose fault is it that the rates are so low?

All I know is believe nothing you hear and half of what you see.

people claim all sorts of rates, but the best of them I talk to regularly and they don’t have a reason to lie during the best times and worst times and most times it don’t match what people on here claim.

in end the, if your making money and able to save for a rainy day fund then haul what you need to to get it done. Truckers are just like fisherman and salesman. Always exaggerating their stories.

I got out when I couldn’t sustain $3.25 per mile on PO. No way I could have lived on 2.75 or even 1.50 atm.

Is this an example of, pay a truck driver 20k a year or 200k a year, he will spend it all either way...?

Poor money managers, regardless of their profession, will never retire, let alone have 2 nickels to rub together. Ever notice how some folks live on a low wage yet never really go on about money troubles? They probably even take vacations, which aren't lavish by any means, yet they are happy. But then again they don't have an escalade in the driveway either.

    Cheap freight definition is simple.
If it's on my truck, it isn't cheap freight.
If it's on your truck, it is cheap freight.

For what it's worth I've been on strike since late October.

I wish you the best of luck. Irritating others doesn't generally generate you revenue.

Low rates has two big reasons.

1: trash economy and Low volume.

Some here have said oh we stick it to brokers during covid. No not true. It was the shippers were fighting each other for trucks, posting loads for more and more money until loads would eventually get covered.
When there is low amount of loads needing to be moved the fight for trucks isn't really there especially when now there's so many dummies hauling cheap freight.

2: the dummies hauling cheap freight.
Even in lower volume environment if all drivers would have standards and not haul anything just to haul anything we wouldn't be in this race to the bottom.
Once a few bad drivers start hauling loads for nothing then brokers are motivated to push the bar lower and lower.

I don't want to hear oh it covers my costs and I'll try in different area.
Then it's it covers my fuel and truck payment, I'll survive another day unless I have a breakdown.
Them it's it covers fuel and enough for roller dog, hopefully repo man doesn't find me.

That's the path we've been going down unfortunately because there will always be those who keep hauling for nothing until they go bankrupt.

Only way this changes is if drivers band together and sit if need be instead of hauling cheap freight. It starts with you. If you haul cheap you're contributing to the problem.

Or many go out of business eventually to race to the bottom and volume picks up.

I agree. That's hitting the nail on the head.
It is systematic work year after year and trying to get the best there is. There's highs and lows and running through the cycles is what it takes.

But what can you do about them brokers being so adamant as today and not giving you what you consider a good rate? They will even tell you that at 1.95 a mile they are making only 10 dollars on the load. Do you have such powers of persuasion? Do you have powers of persuasion to motivate me not to go out there for less than 3 dol a mile? How long? It is not some kind of a sport to haul cheap but necessity. Or necessity to inevitably manifest itself.
If people can't work for money they will work for food.
And that's more honorable than stealing or sitting idle and wallow in sloth.

I don’t care what you say. If you haul that load of tarped lumber for 2.03 a mile on 630 miles today you’re a moron. These people asking for me to haul for this or that price because they’ve covered 3 for that price already is laughable. I’ll sit and go broke before I work while these shippers make record profits off my back.
