Did you notice any difference? I drove a manual 2011 Mack, averaged about 7mpg, we also had an automatic Mack of the same year, I averaged 6.2mpg. I only remember it so clearly because it was part of my argument against the switch.
Why did all mega carriers stop using manual transmissions?

In my line of work, clutches had a tendency to not last. That said, In the last manual truck I had, I got 330K miles out of the original clutch and I ran the replacement up to 780K before it became my turn to get neutered with one of those automatics... I mean, “automated manuals”.
The companies chose to tolerate no-driving idiots, much of which due to the bigotry of low expectations. Behold the result.drvrtech77, JolliRoger, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this. -
Women simply don’t want to live in a truck and be gone all the time .
same with airline pilots . And roofers . And plumbers . And auto mechanics . Etc etc
Women simply are not interested in that occupation .
how many men want to be elementary school teachers or nurses or receptionists ?
And do you think any of those companies care one bit that men don’t want to do those jobs ? -
Just wait until you're in an Intertrashional stuck sitting in the middle of the driveway like a retard waiting for the pressure to build up to 100 PSI because of the pull-ups and braking to get into a tight spot. Thank the genius engineers who designed a transmission that can't shift without almost full air pressure.
Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this. -
I have driven several, last 2 were a KW 880 to bobtail back and pick up a 10 speed which had been repaired, other was an International with a 12 speed tuned for mileage.
The Kenworth was easy to drive and downshifted as you'd expect, the International just didn't.
I never liked Eaton's Ultrashift, either, when the truck I was issued had that, the Meritor 12 speed in many of the others, was much better, and our 2 lady drivers refused to drive an autoshift at all. The 2005s ,Iirc, weren't very much liked and that lease affiliate went back to manuals unless a customer was willing to commit to automated transmissions. -
In my experience I'm finding the mega LTLs still primarily use manuals, but here at Old Dominion we're slowly transitioning to autos. Our 10 speeds average 7.5-7.8mpg, but some autos I've driven are getting 8-8.3mpg. Recruitment isn't an issue for us so I believe it's just down to saving on fuel costs

When I was hauling cattle my transmission always seemed to be having problems after I’d been awake for a couple days. Funny part was after a 4-5 hour nap my transmission seemed to be fine again.
